Overview

The ESOL Coordinator supports adult Haitian immigrants as they complete HDCD’s intake and enrollment process and connect with appropriate English-language classes. This role helps determine eligibility, guide accurate class placement, and refer learners to services that align with their language-development needs.

Role Scope

This position extends beyond classroom instruction. The ESOL Coordinator strengthens program quality by supporting student assessment and placement, preparing lesson plans, guiding teachers and tutors, and working with the project manager to monitor classroom activities and student progress. The coordinator also supports both in-person and remote teaching models and helps manage ESOL programming, including scheduling for teachers, students, and volunteers.

The ideal candidate is multilingual and has knowledge of ESOL curriculum planning, development, instruction, and assessment. This person should demonstrate cultural competence, sensitivity, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with low-income populations. The coordinator should be committed to improving instruction to meet the needs of the Haitian community served by HDCD.
