Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems. This position is for a Software Engineer on the C2BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for Java software development for the Systems Architecture (Sys-Ar) of the Regional Applications teams in Huntsville, AL. Under direction, the candidate will provide experience across multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines, application implications, and customer areas.Essential Functions:Responsible for analyzing and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user supportMaintains currency, debugs, and configures related software productsWorks from specifications to develop or modify operating system applicationsAssists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programsInterfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system's overall efficiencyWorks on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phasesBasic Qualifications:A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degreeApplicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to startUnderstanding of software engineering and software development, with Java/J2EE experience or alternative OO development experience (additional experience with C++ also desired)Experience with software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration managementCandidate must have oral, written, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environmentUnderstanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagramsPreferred Qualifications: Desired experience in the following areas:Knowledge of Agile development methodologiesExperience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired)Knowledge of DevSecOps and/or build managementWillingness to accept unforeseen tasksFamiliarity with common software development and management tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and EclipseWhat We Can Offer You: Northrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive work environment that encourages your growth, benefiting both employees and the company.
