Job Description:

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) will provide care for a diverse population of patients, including high acuity Med/Surg and Intermediate Care levels. The nurse will administer medications, manage various lines and devices, and provide wound care, telemetry interpretation, and support for a variety of patient needs.

Responsibilities:

• Administer oral, IV, IM, and SQ medications, as well as titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions.
• Manage peripheral IVs, midlines, PICC and central line access, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices.
• Provide preventative and restorative skin and wound care.
• Read and interpret telemetry monitoring.
• Care for a wide range of diagnoses including DKA, COPD, CHF, renal and hepatic failures, and more.

Requirements:

• 1 year of nursing experience in a PCU, with EPIC experience for first-time travelers.
• Registered Nurse with completion of an approved nursing education program and current South Dakota Board of Nursing registration.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Proficiency in medical software such as EPIC and experience with equipment including Omnicell and Alaris.
• Ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, perform wound care, line management, and manage drip titration for medications like Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone.

Unit Description
General Information
Beds: 39 - MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU - mixed unit
Minimal Experience:
2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel, please have CRT send to management team for approval
Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment
Traveler must reside >100 miles outside of facility
Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma - heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR - 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this - given to permanent staff
