Manager Trainee

Job Title Manager Trainee Job Summary Under general supervision, this position is responsible for learning the management of a small driver count and/or non‑traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best‑in‑class customer service. The role will involve compliance with DOT regulations, handling all drivers' compliance, and coordinating with internal and external contacts to plan, route, and deliver freight and loads. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier set‑up, minimize turnover, and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent personnel and support projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Perform personnel management, including training and orientation of drivers and employees, and assist with internal and third‑party customer systems. Maximize efficiency of fleet operations and profitability, recommend continuous improvement, measure key performance indicators, and create, maintain and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis at customer locations. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market. Handle administrative duties such as payroll, net‑revenue budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documentation, pay issue resolution, P&L analysis, invoicing, and operational or financial reporting. Maintain yard operations, including equipment inspection, part replacement, repairs, and coordinate maintenance to schedule preventive services and address safety‑related mechanical issues. Resolve service, routing, planning, mechanical, and accessorial pay issues with drivers, customers, and company personnel as they occur. Uphold the company’s safety culture with daily driver safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and company safety policies. Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement to ensure safe, on‑time service, manage freight exceptions, and adjust driver ETA based on pickup and delivery schedules and road conditions. Must be open to working nights and/or weekends. Relocation encouraged but not required following completion of the 1–6 month program (program length may vary). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. High School Diploma/GED with one year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience. Willing to travel to accounts, customers, and company event locations when applicable. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends if needed. Willingness to relocate regionally depending on account assignment. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing a team. Ability to anticipate, recognize, and address conflicts at various levels. Compensation The expected starting pay range for this position is between $48,400.00 and $60,500.00 per year. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for an annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans, where applicable.
