Director of Finance And Operations

Exciting opportunity for a Director of Finance & Operations to provide strategic financial leadership, business operations oversight, and organizational management for a nonprofit organization. This position serves as a key liaison between executive leadership and the organization's outsourced accounting services provider. The role offers broad exposure across budgeting, financial management, business operations, vendor and contract administration, compliance, risk management, board reporting, and organizational performance initiatives in support of organization’s mission and continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership and oversight for business operations and affiliated entities.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on financial performance, organizational effectiveness, operational improvements, and business strategy.
• Develop, implement, and enhance business policies, procedures, and operational practices that support organizational objectives and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and partner with departmental leaders to ensure effective resource utilization and operational efficiency.
• Lead operational reviews, process improvement efforts, organizational research, and strategic projects as assigned by executive leadership.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, dues billing, cash management, and related financial transaction processes.
• Review monthly and annual financial statements, analyze financial results, and provide recommendations to leadership.
• Coordinate month-end accounting activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting processes with external accounting partners.
• Monitor budget-to-actual performance, identify financial risks and opportunities, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
• Develop executive-level financial reports, dashboards, KPIs, and data visualizations to support informed decision-making.
• Conduct variance analysis, revenue projections, expenditure forecasting, and year-end financial planning activities.
• Support executive leadership in cash flow management and financial planning initiatives.
• Oversee vendor relationships, contract administration, RFP and RFQ processes, and service provider performance management.
• Support annual audits, financial reviews, regulatory filings, and compliance reporting requirements.
• Maintain strong internal controls, records management practices, and financial accountability processes.
• Partner with executive leadership to provide financial reporting, analysis, and recommendations to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee.
• Lead, manage, and develop assigned staff, contractors, and service providers while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required.
• Master's degree, CPA designation, or other relevant professional certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, business operations, or a related leadership role.
• Strong background in budgeting, financial management, accounting operations, forecasting, and organizational planning.
• Knowledge of nonprofit and for-profit accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and budget administration.
• Experience managing contracts, vendors, business operations functions, and technology systems preferred.
• Demonstrated success coordinating complex projects and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proven supervisory, leadership, and staff management experience.
• Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with accounting and financial reporting systems including Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Martus, Databasics, PayPal, Microsoft Office, and related business applications.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive financial and organizational information.
• Experience supporting executive leadership, boards, finance committees, and external stakeholders in a mission-driven organization preferred.
