Requirements and Preferences The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Deputy Chief Medical Examiner for our Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services. Formulates long-range goals for the organization, develops policy and position papers and negotiates with the chief administrative officer and/or elected officials. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from a medical school accredited by LCME or COMA, a DO school. Five (5) years as an Associate Medical Examiner with high proficiency in pathology and forensic pathology, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role. Board certified in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology or Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Special Certifications and Licenses Valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment. Licensed as a medical doctor by the State of Florida. Board certified in anatomic and forensic pathology or anatomic, clinical, and forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Scope of Work – Duties and Responsibilities Assist in developing, evaluating and revising operational policies and procedures of the Pathology section. Assists in administering the County's forensic medical programs. Directs through subordinates the planning, scheduling and coordination of divisional activities. Represents the Medical Examiner's Office at meetings and conferences. Develops and maintains professional working relationships with hospital authorities and the medical community. Administers the Forensic Pathology fellowship program and maintains accreditation through ACGME. Performs autopsies, examinations and death scene investigations. Reviews cases through analysis of autopsies, laboratory findings and case investigation reports. Plans and supervises the work of the Pathology staff, residents and visiting Pathologists. Furnishes law enforcement officials with medical and scientific evidence. Testifies as an expert witness in deposition and trial activities. Explains causes of death to relatives of the deceased. Researches, prepares and presents scientific papers. Performs related work as assigned. Physical Demands Medium to heavy work involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing and raising objects, exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force regularly and 50 to 100 pounds occasionally.
