Physician Office Specialist

Provides receptionist/clerical support ensuring patient flow, comfort and satisfaction for OBGYN at Athens. Primary responsibilities include answering phones, directing calls, scheduling appointments in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, data entry of patient information, insurance verification, and supporting staff as assigned. Department: OBGYN – Athens Work Shift: Day Scheduled Hours: 40 hours per week Responsibilities Greets patients at arrival, initiates appropriate paperwork and completes patient registration Performs insurance verification, collects co-payments, outstanding balances, and establishes payment plans; ensures accuracy in information systems and billing systems Work EMR work queues to correct registration errors Responsible for electronic and manual insurance verification and processing of insurance paperwork; obtains pre-authorization when necessary Interacts with physician offices and third parties to obtain all necessary paperwork Updates patient charts electronically or on paper, obtains signatures, files paperwork, and notifies appropriate clinical associates of patient arrival Answers a multi-line phone system, screens calls for office associates, and directs calls appropriately Provides general office and clerical support as assigned by Supervisor or Manager (e.g., faxing, completing disability, FMLA, attorney-reported letters, patient release forms, Industrial C-9s, C-84s, C-86s, Medco 17s, industrial appeal paperwork and retroactive C-9s) Works industrial claims in the EMR system, attaching dictation to claims and adding diagnosis allowances and authorization numbers Assists in keeping patient charts organized and filed, including scanning and DocTrack information into EMR Attends staff meetings and continuing in-house education seminars as needed Organizational / Office Responsibilities Sorts, distributes, and mails transcription as assigned Orders and stocks office supplies Ensures office equipment is clean and well-maintained Provides support to appropriate staff members as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School or GED (Required) 1–2 years of previous secretarial experience in healthcare or medical office, or equivalent combination of education and experience Equal Employment Opportunity Statement OhioHealth is an equal‑opportunity employer and fully supports and maintains compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations.
