Registered Nurses (Operating Room)

The Registered Nurses (Operating Room) are accountable for patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care for the patient undergoing a surgical/invasive procedure. The perioperative Registered Nurses (Operating Room) plan, direct and coordinate the care of every patient undergoing operative and other invasive procedures, taking into consideration respect for the individual and recognition of the important contribution that each team member makes to the patient's well-being. The Registered Nurses (Operating Room) are expected to function proficiently in both the circulator and scrub role within the Operating Room and to be competent in all surgical specialties served. The Registered Nurses (Operating Room) maintain knowledge of current Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards, VHA Directives, and service level standard operating procedures. The Registered Nurses (Operating Room) assure the sterility of the surgical field is maintained and all instrumentation and equipment in play is used in a safe and efficient manner.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Independently plans and delivers technically competent care to patients with complex needs in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
• Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed.
• Functions as an emerging leader in providing direction to staff to identify, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the plan of care is achieved.
• Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients.
• Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Role models and displays ethical behavior.
• Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and models appropriate action by providing and directing others in the provision of care following established policies and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
• Models' high reliability principles and I CARE values to improve patient outcomes.
• Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice
• Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting.
• Effectively functions as a leader, with demonstrated outcomes, for the immediate practice setting.
• Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communications and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting.

Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
