Summary The Lead Medical Support Assistant serves in the VA Outpatient Scheduling Services Department at the NWI Healthcare System in Omaha, Nebraska. The Lead MSA is responsible for assuring that staffing, training, compliance, reporting, quality assurance, and budgetary initiatives are met. Basic Requirements Citizenship: Citizen of the United States Non‑citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38U.S.C.7407(a) Experience: None Education: High‑school diploma, GED, or a proficiency certificate from a state or territorial‑level board or department of education Licensure/Certification/Registration: None Grandfathering Provision – Employees in VHA in this occupation under a permanent, appropriate, and legal placement are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade and/or assignment held, including education and registration/certification where applicable Employees who do not meet all the basic or assignment‑specific requirements in this standard but met the qualifications applicable to the position at the time of appointment are subject to temporary appointment limitations until they fully meet the basic requirements Employees retained under this provision who subsequently leave the occupation lose protected status and must meet the full VA qualification standard at the time of re‑entry Foreign Education – Education completed outside the U.S. must be deemed at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. program by a credential‑recognition organization specializing in foreign educational credentials Physical Requirements – See VA Directive and Handbook5019 English Language Proficiency – Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38U.S.C.7403(f) Creditable Experience – Experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) associated with current MSA responsibilities or an equivalent administrative patient support role in a non‑VA setting Part‑Time Experience – Part‑time experience as an MSA or equivalent is creditable for the portion of a full‑time workweek Quality of Experience – Must be at the level comparable to MSA experience or equivalent clinical support role in a non‑VA setting at the next lower grade level Additional Requirements – Candidates must possess the required specialized experience and demonstrate all KSAs summarized below (see GS‑6 and GS‑7 grade requirements) Duties Assure staffing, training, compliance, reporting, quality assurance, and budgetary initiatives; manage day‑to‑day operations Act as liaison between administrative and clinical staff to resolve access, customer service, patient flow, revenue, and data validation issues Perform scheduling duties, maintain appointment schedules, and adjust appointment times, locations, or dates as needed Screen and receive patient calls, provide information while adhering to privacy rules and clinic processes Assist with clinic coverage during staffing changes and coordinate contingency plans Participate in meetings and huddles focused on patient care planning and management Generate patient workload reports for validation and resolve difficult problems to reduce dissatisfaction with VA services Perform additional duties as assigned and support overall clinic operations Benefits Work Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:00am–4:30pm Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases (above minimum rate of the grade may apply for unique qualifications) Paid Time Off: 37–50 days of annual paid time off per year (13–26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays); credit toward annual leave accrual may be available for prior work experience or military service Parental Leave: Up to 12 weeks of paid leave after 12 months of employment for birth, adoption, or foster care placement Child Care Subsidy: Eligible full‑time employees with family income below $144,000 may receive up to 25% of childcare costs up to $416.66 per month Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contributions; federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care insurance available Telework: Not Available; position is on‑site only #J-18808-Ljbffr
