Central Area Food Bank Needs YOU

YWCA of Seattle-King County-Snohomish County

The YWCA Central Area Food Bank serves over 300 families each week. This service takes a great deal of volunteer support, therefore our food bank is always in need of ongoing, regular volunteers to help meet the need. Our Wednesday team is currently seeking long term volunteers for the following shifts:

Wednesday Crew

8:30am – 11:30am Set-up crew: A small crew to set-up packing area and start the pack-out
9:00am – Noon Packing Crew: 1st team filling 230+ bags of food
11:00am – 1:00pm Street Team : Help delivery drivers load bags into their cars

Packing crew volunteers pack bags of food in preparation for delivery to our clients, street Team volunteers help get bags into the cars of delivery volunteers. Volunteers are routinely asked to move boxes of food and bulk items that can weigh up to 50lbs. Working conditions involve uneven ground, working mostly outdoors in various weather conditions, lifting, bending, standing and walking frequently.

Volunteers should:

Be 18 years or older (youth volunteers are accepted by permission only)
Be able to lift/move 50lbs
Be able to work mostly outdoors (covered) in any weather condition
Ideally be vaccinated against Covid
Be culturally competent and sensitive to the issues of food insecurity
Be in alignment with the YWCA mission to eliminate racism and empower women
