This role combines technical expertise with commercial strategy. You will work closely with OEMs, strategic end users, industry partners, and internal teams to identify market needs, influence specifications, advance new projects, and strengthen Evonik's position as a trusted technology and innovation partner.
Location: This is a hybrid position based in Allentown, PA, with an expectation of being onsite approximately 2 days per week when not traveling. Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and expand relationships with key technical decision-makers and influencers across OEMs, strategic end users, engineering organizations, industry bodies, technical committees, and other relevant industry partners.
- Drive new business development by identifying emerging OEM requirements, strategic end-user needs, new applications, technology trends, product developments, and market opportunities at an early stage.
- Identify and pursue new OEM and end-user projects, partnering closely with internal technical, marketing, sales, and business development teams to advance opportunities into sustainable business growth.
- Proactively map OEM development programs, specifications, technology roadmaps, and decision-making processes to identify opportunities for Evonik products and technologies.
- Influence and support OEM specification-setting and approval processes by applying a strong understanding of lubricant technology, formulation requirements, industry trends, and Evonik's technical capabilities.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to OEMs and strategic end users, translating complex technical topics into meaningful application and business benefits.
- Monitor and communicate market developments, competitive activity, technology shifts, specification changes, potential threats to existing business, and opportunities for new or expanded business.
- Represent Evonik at industry conferences, technical committees, working groups, OEM meetings, and other relevant industry events to strengthen relationships, gather market intelligence, and identify new opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with Industrial Segment Managers and regional sales, marketing, technology, R&D, and technical service teams to translate OEM and market requirements into actionable business and technical priorities.
- Partner with OEM Managers in other regions to ensure global alignment of OEM strategies, technical positions, customer engagement, and business development activities while sharing market intelligence and technical insights.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in science, engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an OEM-facing technical, technical-commercial, application, business development, or related role within lubricants, additives, industrial equipment, or another relevant technical industry.
- Strong understanding of OEM and end-user value chains, technical decision-making processes, specification development, approval processes, and the key business drivers and needs of industrial customers.
- Strong technical understanding and a genuine interest in engineering, lubricant technology, and industrial applications.
- Ability to combine technical expertise with commercial acumen and recognize both the technical and business implications of projects and market opportunities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build credibility and trust with technical and commercial stakeholders.
- Entrepreneurial and results-oriented approach, with the ability to establish new relationships, influence stakeholders, identify opportunities, and proactively turn those opportunities into tangible projects and business results.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% throughout North America while maintaining regular connection and collaboration with colleagues based in Allentown, PA.
Experience That Will Help You Succeed
- Exposure to one or more industrial end-use markets, such as construction, mining, agriculture, compressors, robotics, manufacturing, power generation, or related OEM-driven applications.
