Director of Experiential Education, Assistant/Associate Professor

Larkin University (LU) College of Pharmacy (COP) is seeking a full-time Director of Experiential Education. The Director of Experiential Education works closely with the Assistant Dean for Practice and Professional Affairs and Dean in ensuring the integrity of the University and the College of Pharmacy (COP) are in line with the founding principles, values, mission, and goals and department specific policies and procedures and works collaboratively with the Professional Affairs staff, other administrators, faculty and staff for the continued development of the Professional Affairs curriculum. The faculty will have responsibilities in different aspects of pharmacy academia. The Director reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Practice and Professional Affairs. LUCOP’s accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and is an integrated three-year curriculum. LU is a private not-for-profit 501(c)(3) university and consists of the College of Pharmacy, College of Biomedical Sciences, School of Physician Assistant Studies, and School of Dental Medicine. More information about LUCOP is available at: Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Recruit, establish, train and maintain licensed pharmacists and/or other practitioners (as applicable) who satisfy the criteria for preceptors to meet the needs and practice interests of students while developing additional geographic regions and preparing for colligate growth. Creates, identifies, and leads activities related to community engagement and professional events. Serves as a liaison for community partners and in community-based initiatives. Implements a progressive plan that includes innovative clinical practice initiatives with partners and preceptors and strengthens community engagement with alumni preceptors. Assist in updating experiential policies and procedures, manuals, assignments, newsletters, and syllabi for the introductory (IPPE) and advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) program. Assist in overseeing the experiential program and practice programs including capacity, student schedules, evaluations of students, preceptors, committees, newsletters, and sites in close collaboration with the Office of Professional Affairs staff and experiential management system. Utilize feedback from student and preceptor evaluations for purposes of preceptor feedback, preceptor development, and quality improvements to the IPPE and APPE program. Provide effective written and verbal communication with preceptors, sites, and students. Positively represent the Office of Professional Affairs to external institutions, organizations and agencies by exhibiting professionalism and providing mentorship and client centered support to preceptors and students during the experiential program. Ensure that site specific requirements and preceptor data is entered into the Experiential Management System. Collaborates with the Chair of Clinical and Administrative Sciences, clinical faculty, and Assistant Dean of Practice and Professional Affairs to develop and maintain ongoing preceptor development initiatives including new faculty practice sites and practice programs. Support community outreach for didactic interprofessional education (IPE) and assist in coordination of IPE case days. Assist in activities related to program accreditation by various national, regional, state and other accreditation and regulatory agencies. Assist in activities related to professional growth, milestone events, and professionalism of students. Participate in didactic education including IPPE and APPE Orientation/Preparation and lectures related to practice areas of interest. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Maintain a 50% commitment to the Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences for didactic classroom teaching time (may fluctuate due to program needs) and to the college’s academic endeavors, including but not limited to patient care/skills lab, research, student mentoring/advising, and serving on COP/university committees as applicable. Collaborate with the Patient Care and Clinical Skills Lab and faculty team to ensure that didactic and skills-based training appropriately prepares students for IPPE and APPE experiences. Ensure compliance with all LU policies and procedures. Promote safe working conditions and procedures in the Department and College. Promote collegiality, professional and ethical behaviors. Perform other reasonable duties as requested by the Assistant Dean for Practice and Professional Affairs, Chair of Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences, or Dean. Job Requirements: The preferred candidate will possess a PharmD. Other terminal degrees with healthcare leadership experience may be considered. The preferred candidate should have a strong background in pharmacy practice and/or academia. Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, strong communication, and problem-solving skills are required. This position is open to all candidates authorized to work in the United States. The appointment may be made at the Director or Assistant Director level and will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
