Job Overview HCA Florida West Hospital is hiring a Cytotechnologist at 8383 North Davis Highway, Pensacola, FL 32514. Responsibilities Stains, mounts and studies cells of the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions, following established standards and practices; prepares microscopic slides from specimens of blood, scrapings or other bodily exudates and fixes stains and slides to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under the microscope. Examine cell samples to detect abnormal hormone conditions. Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape or size of cellular components and patterns. Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer, precancerous changes or infections. Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs), to detect abnormal conditions. Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports. Assist pathologists or other physicians in collecting cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies. Perform quality assurance in the laboratory, including maintenance of the system in accordance with the requirements of the College of American Pathologists and preparation for site visits. Prepare slides and reports in a timely fashion, ensuring QC standards are met. Maintain procedures and records to meet all regulatory standards. Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department. Actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered. Demonstrate knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and use it to report potential patient safety issues. Follow established guidelines for reporting significant medical errors or unanticipated outcomes that result in patient harm. Attend in-service presentations and complete all mandatory education requirements; use a Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety. Maintain regular, punctual, and dependable attendance. Prepare and maintain reagents and equipment. Qualifications Associate’s Degree required. Florida License Cytotechnologist required. C.T. (ASCP) preferred. 1 to 3 years of experience preferred.
