The Estimator is responsible for analyzing construction documents to determine material, labor, and cost requirements for projects. This role supports the estimating team by producing accurate quantity takeoffs, assisting with bid preparation, and ensuring all project data is complete, consistent, and competitive.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine scope, materials, labor, and overall project requirements
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using digital estimating tools
• Develop detailed cost estimates and assist in preparing bid proposals
• Gather and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
• Identify discrepancies, gaps, or inconsistencies in project documents
• Maintain organized and up-to-date project documentation and cost data
• Collaborate with estimators, project managers, and vendors to validate information and ensure accuracy
• Support the development of technical proposals as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Excel
• Solid mathematical and analytical skills for accurate calculations
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team

Preferred Experience & Education

• 0–5 years of experience in estimating, takeoffs, or construction-related roles
• Degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems; mechanical insulation experience is a plus

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based with regular use of computer-based estimating tools
• Occasional site visits may be required
• Ensure all project work is completed according to industry standards, specifications, and regulations.
• Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, OSHA, and company safety policies.
• Manage project budgets, reviewing costs, tracking expenses, and ensuring profitability.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or safety.
• Prepare and present monthly bills and financial reports, schedule of values, etc.
• Anticipate potential project risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
• Resolve project issues promptly to minimize delays and cost overruns.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred but not required.
• 7+ years of construction management experience.
• Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore).
• Strong understanding of construction materials, heavy commercial application and trade coordination, and safety standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel to job sites and manage multiple projects concurrently.
