Job Title: Industrial Finish Painter

Job Description

This role focuses on applying high‑quality industrial paint finishes in a manufacturing environment, from thorough surface preparation to precise coating application and final inspection. You will use professional spray equipment and industrial coatings to ensure parts meet strict quality, safety, and production standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive surface preparation, including sanding, grinding, masking, taping, and cleaning of parts prior to painting.
• Apply primers, topcoats, epoxies, urethanes, two‑part coatings, and other industrial coatings according to specifications.
• Operate HVLP, airless, and pressure‑pot spray systems to achieve consistent and high‑quality finishes.
• Set up, adjust, and maintain spray equipment, paint booths, sanding equipment, and personal protective equipment.
• Mix and prepare coatings, including two‑component systems, following manufacturer specifications and work instructions.
• Read and follow work orders, specifications, and coating instructions to ensure correct materials and processes are used.
• Inspect parts for coverage, defects, and finish quality, identifying issues such as runs, sags, orange peel, and other coating defects.
• Perform touch‑ups and corrective actions to meet finish and quality standards.
• Use tools such as DFT gauges, viscosity cups, and mixing equipment to verify coating thickness, consistency, and application quality.
• Follow work instructions, safety procedures, and pre‑established guidelines to complete daily tasks safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with OSHA guidelines and 5S practices.
• Support production goals by completing assigned tasks efficiently, accurately, and within established timelines.
• Communicate progress, issues, and equipment concerns to supervision or appropriate team members.
• Work under immediate supervision while demonstrating the ability to perform tasks independently once trained.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of experience as an Industrial Painter, Finish Painter, or Spray Painter in an industrial or auto body environment, or completion of apprenticeship or formal training in industrial painting, coatings, autobody, or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of epoxy, urethane, and two‑part coatings and their proper application.
• Experience with industrial painting processes, including paint preparation, masking, and finishing.
• Proficiency operating HVLP, airless, and pressure‑pot spray systems.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, specifications, and coating instructions accurately.
• Experience using DFT (dry film thickness) gauges, viscosity cups, and mixing equipment.
• Understanding of paint booth operation, proper ventilation, and required PPE for safe painting operations.
• Ability to identify, diagnose, and correct coating defects such as runs, sags, orange peel, and coverage issues.
• Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to producing high‑quality finishes.
• Reliability, safety‑focused mindset, and the ability to work independently once trained.
• Comfort working 8–10 hours per day and up to 6 days per week, depending on shift and production needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with industrial painting in manufacturing environments, including use of paint booths and spray guns.
• Work experience in auto body painting, industrial finishing, or powder coating.
• Hands‑on experience with sandblasting and paint prep, including sanding and surface conditioning.
• Familiarity with industrial coatings such as two‑part coatings, industrial paints, and finishes.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced production setting with multiple workstations and processes.
• Comfort working in a non‑temperature‑controlled plant environment while following safety and PPE requirements.
• Willingness to participate in 4–8 weeks of day‑shift training to learn machinery and processes.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large, non‑temperature‑controlled manufacturing plant with expansive production areas, over 20 CNC workstations, and more than 40 welding bays, with further expansion planned. Multiple shifts are available, including a day shift from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and an afternoon/evening shift from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with overtime potential extending to around 12:30 a.m. Employees should be comfortable working 8–10 hours per day and up to 6 days per week, depending on production demands and shift assignments. Training is conducted on the day shift for approximately 4–8 weeks, depending on how quickly the employee learns the machinery and processes. The plant can become hot during summer months; large fans are provided at each workstation, and the company offers cold refreshments to help employees stay comfortable. Plans are in place to fully air‑condition the plant within the next year. Work attire includes jeans or work pants and short‑ or long‑sleeved shirts, with steel‑toe footwear required for safety. Hearing and eye protection are required in all manufacturing departments, and employees use PPE appropriate to paint booth and industrial finishing operations.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lexington, TN.

The pay range for this position is $46446.00 - $51901.00/yr.
