The Project Engineer supports the successful planning, coordination, and execution of industrial and commercial construction projects. This role reviews project plans and proposals, helps develop and maintain project schedules and logistics plans, and ensures construction activities comply with safety, quality, and cost objectives. The Project Engineer works closely with project leadership, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to keep documentation accurate, resolve issues, and maintain smooth operations on the job site.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and proposals to understand scope, requirements, and constraints, and support effective project execution.

• Develop, maintain, and enforce detailed project site logistics plans to ensure efficient and safe movement of people, equipment, and materials.

• Assist with creating and updating project schedules and short-term look-ahead schedules, identifying key milestones and the project critical path, and revising plans as needed.

• Maintain construction documents on site and ensure all plan revisions are incorporated to produce accurate as-built documentation.

• Assist in monitoring subcontractor work for efficiency, quality, and adherence to project requirements, and provide regular updates and feedback on project progress.

• Prepare and distribute routine agendas, meeting minutes, and follow-up reports for subcontractor and owner meetings to document decisions and action items.

• Lead site walk-throughs for owners, architects, inspectors, and other visitors, clearly communicating project status and addressing questions.

• Assist in resolving disputes or issues with owners, subcontractors, and suppliers in a professional and timely manner.

• Communicate proactively with the project manager and site leadership regarding jobsite issues, risks, and concerns.

• Review RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, samples, time sheets, punch lists, and delivery tickets for accuracy and completeness.

• Assist with managing project costs by inputting labor and material costs into specified cost codes, estimating potential change orders, and reporting on cost code status when requested.

• Adhere to and support the safety and quality program for each project, and assist the superintendent with managing the site-specific safety plan.

• Maintain and enforce construction site cleanliness to promote a safe and organized workplace.

• Coordinate the purchase and delivery of materials needed for the job site, ensuring timely availability to support the schedule.

• Ensure all required permits and inspections are obtained, scheduled, and completed in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills

• Experience in construction management within industrial or commercial construction environments.

• Proficiency with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for managing construction documentation and workflows.

• Ability to manage and process Requests for Information (RFIs) accurately and efficiently.

• Experience using Bluebeam for reviewing, marking up, and managing construction documents.

• Proficiency with Primavera P6 for developing and maintaining construction schedules.

• Experience working on commercial construction projects, including coordination of subcontractors and site activities.

• Experience working on industrial construction projects with an understanding of related processes and requirements.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Project for creating and updating project schedules.

• Experience using Procore or similar construction management software platforms.

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.

• At least 2 years of experience in industrial or commercial construction.

• Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate project documentation and as-built records.

• Effective communication skills to interact with project managers, superintendents, owners, architects, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.

• Detail-oriented approach to reviewing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and cost documentation.

• Capability to support dispute resolution by gathering facts, documenting issues, and assisting in developing solutions.

• Commitment to safety and quality, with the ability to help implement site-specific safety plans and quality standards.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment and adapt to changing project needs.

• Basic understanding of cost coding, change order estimation, and project cost tracking.

Work Environment

This role operates in an active industrial and commercial construction environment, primarily on job sites. Work hours typically range from 45 to 60 hours per week, which may include 5 to 7 days per week depending on project demands. The position involves regular interaction with subcontractors, owners, architects, inspectors, and site leadership, as well as frequent site walk-throughs and field coordination. The Project Engineer uses construction technology tools such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Procore to manage documentation, scheduling, and project communication. The work setting emphasizes strict adherence to safety programs, site-specific safety plans, and maintaining a clean, orderly job site. Attire is consistent with a professional construction environment and includes appropriate safety gear as required by the site.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
