Job Description:

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs various technical, clerical, and information systems-related procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, specimen procurement, and other laboratory areas as requested on patient specimens, control materials, and proficiency samples. Operates laboratory equipment within established policies to provide timely and accurate test results to doctors. This skilled individual is responsible for performing laboratory tests efficiently and accurately for high-quality patient care. Monitors quality control procedures and maintains involvement in the Laboratory Quality Improvement program.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of results.
• Enter data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into the computer for storage.
• Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Work with laboratory equipment to prepare and analyze slides and specimens of human blood, tissue, or other cells.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Establish and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
• Collect and study blood samples to determine the number of cells, their morphology, or their blood group and compatibility for transfusion.
• Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Identify abnormalities in samples such as malignancies, bacteria, parasites, or genetic abnormalities.
• Assist in blood-typing or other routine blood tests.
• Provide technical information about test results to physicians, family members, and researchers.

Requirements:

• Washington MA phlebotomy license is required.
