Position Summary

A growing provider of industrial automation, power generation, and critical infrastructure solutions is seeking a Field Automation Technician to support the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems used across oil and gas and industrial applications.

This position is ideal for an automation technician or early-career controls professional with hands-on experience working with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, flow computers, HMIs, instrumentation, and industrial communications .

The technician will work closely with engineering, project management, service, and customer teams to ensure automation systems are installed, tested, commissioned, and operating safely and reliably.

Responsibilities

• Install, program, test, commission, and troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, and SCADA systems .
• Program and troubleshoot ABB RMC systems and associated control equipment.
• Configure and troubleshoot Beijer HMI systems and operator interfaces.
• Develop and modify control logic based on project requirements.
• Configure industrial communications and third-party device integrations.
• Troubleshoot Modbus and other industrial communication protocols .
• Perform electrical and instrumentation work, including:
  • Instrument calibration
  • Loop checks
  • Wiring
  • Terminations
  • Device installation
• Install and maintain field automation equipment and associated infrastructure.
• Install and work with conduit, cable tray, instrumentation wiring, and related hardware.
• Travel to customer sites to perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service activities.
• Diagnose PLC, HMI, RTU, SCADA, instrumentation, and communication issues.
• Work with customers and internal engineering teams to identify and resolve automation problems.
• Assist with startup and commissioning of industrial automation systems.
• Complete accurate service reports, commissioning documentation, and project records.
• Participate in on-call and emergency service responsibilities as required.
• Follow all company and customer safety procedures and maintain a professional field-service environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–4 years of experience in industrial automation, controls, electrical, instrumentation, or field service preferred.
• Strong entry-level candidates with relevant technical training, military experience, trade school, or hands-on automation experience will be considered.
• Hands-on experience with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, HMIs, instrumentation, or industrial control systems .
• Experience with ABB RMC is highly preferred.
• Experience programming or supporting Beijer HMI systems is highly preferred.
• Working knowledge of Modbus or other industrial communication protocols.
• Ability to troubleshoot control systems, HMIs, instrumentation, and field devices.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Comfortable using hand tools and power tools.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a field service team.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on field position involving customer sites, industrial facilities, and oil and gas environments. Employees may be exposed to dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, elevated noise levels, moving equipment, electricity, and changing weather and temperatures.

All work must be performed in accordance with applicable safety procedures, customer requirements, and PPE standards.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Use hands and fingers to grip, handle, and manipulate tools and equipment.
• Reach, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Work around electrical equipment and moving machinery while following appropriate safety procedures.
• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly .
• Work in industrial and outdoor environments as required.
