About the Role
As a Railcar Mechanic, you will be responsible for the essential inspection and maintenance of rail assets. This is an active, outdoors-based role where you will play a key part in ensuring our operations run smoothly, safely, and to high industry standards. What You’ll Do
- Inspect & Identify: Conduct thorough inspections of railcars to identify damage and fatigue.
- Perform Repairs: Execute authorized repairs to customer and AAR specifications.
- Operate Equipment: Safely operate various mechanical equipment, including all-terrain vehicles and tractors.
- Prioritize Safety: Follow all company guidelines and safety rules to ensure a secure work environment for yourself and your team.
What You Bring
- Technical Skill: A strong mechanical background is required. Experience with welding (stick welding is ideal) is highly recommended.
- Tool Proficiency: Ability to use basic hand tools effectively, such as pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets, and wrenches.
- Dependability: A proven track record of showing up on time and working safely.
- Licensure: A valid state driver's license is required if you are operating company equipment.
Physical, Mental & Environmental Demands
This is a physically demanding role. You must be comfortable with the following:
- Environment: Constant outdoor work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dust, and noisy environments.
- Movement: Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and walking throughout your shift.
- Lifting & Force: Ability to frequently open railcar end doors, applying a pulling force of 90 lbs. and a pushing force of 68 lbs.
- Height: Ability to occasionally climb ladders to heights exceeding 16 feet.
