Med Recovery Attorney

Miller Johnson is seeking a skilled and motivated litigation attorney to join our Med Recovery Practice Group in any of our Michigan offices (Grand Rapids, Detroit or Kalamazoo). This role involves advocating on behalf of hospitals and medical providers to recover patient account balances from insurance companies. The ideal candidate will bring at least one year of litigation experience and familiarity with Michigan’s No Fault Act. This is an opportunity to work on complex healthcare reimbursement disputes within a collaborative, growing team committed to delivering outstanding results for clients. Key Responsibilities Represent hospitals and medical providers in disputes with insurance companies involving: No Fault eligibility, coverage, causation, and priority issues under Michigan’s No Fault Act Health plan disputes, including issues related to pre-authorization, pre-existing condition denials, COBRA eligibility, and ERISA preemption Reimbursement disputes under the No Fault Fee Schedule, Worker’s Compensation Fee Schedule, ERISA plans, HMOs, and government programs Address customary and reasonable underpayments and pursue recovery through litigation and negotiation Manage claims involving third-party audits, balance billing issues, and contractual disputes Defend or assert charging lien or fee claims related to patient liability claims Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and represent clients in court and administrative proceedings Collaborate with internal teams to develop case strategies and support the broader goals of the Med Recovery Practice Group Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable healthcare reimbursement laws, regulations, and procedures Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school Admission to practice law in Michigan Minimum of one (1) year of litigation experience; healthcare litigation or insurance defense experience preferred Familiarity with Michigan’s No Fault Act is strongly preferred Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with attention to detail and deadlines Commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and client service Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment We offer competitive wages with annual increases, flexible scheduling, paid time off, and a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid parental leave, adoption assistance, and a 401(k) retirement plan. #J-18808-Ljbffr Miller Johnson
