Registered Nurse

The RN Preceptor is responsible for orienting, training, and mentoring new registered nurses and existing staff through the onboarding process. They act as a liaison, ensuring clear communication among nursing staff, management, and the director. Essential Functions Assist with the orientation of new hires. Oversee the clinical orientation of new hires during the orientation period. Act as a role model, helping orientees to socialize in the workplace, learn and develop clinical practice, and shape critical‑thinking and judgment skills while supervising to ensure patient safety. Be proficient in the drug storage cabinet and train others in all related processes. Mix chemotherapy and therapeutic medications and train orientees in these processes to ensure best practice. Work with clinicians to review documentation processes and forms for patient visits. Monitor the orientation checklist so that outcomes are met within the appropriate time frame. Communicate new‑hire progress to members of management. Collaborate with the manager on 45‑ and 90‑day evaluations. Provide clinical skill expertise and offer rationale for tasks performed. Follow and understand all clinical policies and procedures to ensure best practice. Collaborate with the training team to assess education needs and develop a focused, high‑quality education program. Work with all departments to meet organizational goals. Select and use appropriate instructional methods when teaching new processes. Remain available as a resource mentor for employees after orientation. Identify performance measures or indicators and take corrective action to improve system performance. Conduct job‑specific application training at least once per quarter. Train new employees in their clinic within their region. Work at the home clinic when not orienting a new employee and assist with special projects as staffing and time allow. Participate in testing new functionality for applications (EMR, Healthstream, etc.). Support end users by defining and resolving issues with new versions. Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct regarding confidential information. Support and adhere to Tennessee Oncology’s mission, vision, and values. Meet all essential functions of the clinical staff position, precepting for knowledge, skills, and abilities. Education & Experience Must complete the Tennessee Oncology Preceptor Training Class – required. No less than one year experience in the clinical area as a Tennessee Oncology RN. Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred. OCN preferred. Current Tennessee license, unrestricted. Current CPR certification required. Familiarity with quality and regulatory matters. Chemotherapy and biotherapy certification required. Ability to travel to satellite clinics when necessary. Physical Requirements Standing – occasionally. Walking – occasionally.
