Job Description Open Rank – Medical Physicist – Department of Radiology at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Position: full‑time Board Certified Diagnostic Medical Physicist, part of a group of four medical physicists, travelling to satellite sites and working independently to provide clinical medical physics services. Candidates with appropriate educational background will be considered for a faculty appointment in the Department of Radiology. Primary Responsibilities Clinical: Carry out annual performance evaluations of x‑ray systems (fluoroscopy, radiography, mammography, CT), MRI systems, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, etc. Oversee and review technologist quality control/quality assurance programs. Support and consult with technologists, radiologists and Radiation Safety staff regarding clinical protocol management, dose assessment and review of Radiation Protection Program elements. Support and advise for license and accreditation of equipment (ACR, DES, TJC). Participate in training and education of staff, faculty and trainees. Provide design, consultation and assessment of shielding requirements; evaluate integrity and adequacy of installed supplemental shielding. Perform assessments of public exposure in areas surrounding x‑ray rooms. Provide advice on optimising various diagnostic imaging procedures that utilise ionising and non‑ionising radiation. Academic: Under the direction of the Division Chief, participate in teaching efforts of the Diagnostic Radiology residency and the Diagnostic Medical Physics residency. Develop and contribute to Department research programmes and/or pursue personal research interests through collaboration. Apply for external or internal research funding where time permits. Participate in local, regional and national committees and conferences, educational endeavours with the Department and professional development activities. Required Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong time‑management skills; motivated, flexible and collaborative. Technical experience and understanding of state regulations, accreditation criteria, process and compliance; familiarity with applicable regulatory guides. Desire to demonstrate initiative and ownership of daily tasks and projects. Attention to detail, thorough, well‑organised. Comfortable dealing with a variety of situations and personalities. Ability to actively solve problems by seeking, developing and implementing viable solutions. Ability to lift 50 lbs and drive with own vehicle to off‑campus sites. Education and Experience Requirements MS or PhD in Medical Physics. Valid Driver’s License. Experience with diagnostic imaging systems and operation. Certified by the American Board of Radiology, American Board of Medical Physics or Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine. Faculty rank commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
