The practice specializes in serving children and their families, including those with very young babies and children. Counseling of Alexandria also supports women experiencing a wide range of emotional and life challenges. Clinicians collaborate closely with families to promote long-term emotional well-being and resilience. Role Description The Mental Health Therapist will provide individual, child, and family therapy to clients experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and related concerns in a family-centered context. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting intake assessments, developing treatment plans, delivering psychotherapy sessions, coordinating care with other providers, and maintaining clear and timely clinical documentation. The therapist will collaborate with caregivers, schools, and community resources as needed to support children and their families. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Alexandria, VA, with a combination of in-office sessions and some work-from-home flexibility for telehealth and administrative tasks. The therapist will participate in team meetings, case consultations, and ongoing professional development to support high-quality client care. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in Mental Health and Family Therapy, particularly with children, families, and women facing diverse challenges. Proficiency in Treatment Planning, including assessment, goal setting, and use of evidence-based interventions. Experience in Social Work and Case Management, including coordinating services and collaborating with community and medical resources. Relevant master’s degree (e.g., Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy) and current or eligible licensure in Virginia (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Resident in Counseling). Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with electronic health records and telehealth platforms. Ability to build therapeutic rapport with children, caregivers, and families from diverse backgrounds and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Commitment to ongoing learning, cultural humility, and trauma-informed, strengths-based practice.
