TPS is an innovative and self‑sustaining department that supports the UCSB mission by providing safe and reliable parking, fleet services and transportation alternatives to our campus community. TPS manages over 9,500 parking spaces and over 400 vehicles. TPS coordinates inbound and outbound traffic for all major campus events. Brief Summary of Job Duties Supervises Transportation Services operations including oversight of all garage activity, vehicle acquisition from request to funding to entering vehicle in fleet, inventory, insurance issues repair and maintenance of all Transportation pool and assigned vehicles. Ensure compliance by garage staff on all safety issues. Provides roadside assistance as needed. Accurately documents all work performed. Completes repair orders promptly. Must be able to work as a member of a team and share in the responsibility for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. Provide advisory support on fleet electricity and vehicles upgrade strategic plan. Required Qualifications Associate's Degree or an equivalent combination of experience/training 1-3 years Experience in fleet maintenance and repair. 1-3 years Automotive mechanical experience Working knowledge of university policies and procedures. Working knowledge of repair, maintenance and storage of fleet vehicles. Ability to perform industry‑standard diagnostic and troubleshooting testing. Ability to operate personal computers, office software, computerized vehicle maintenance programs, and other specialized diagnostic devices and power tools. Knowledge of all applicable codes, rules and regulations related to maintenance and repair of fleet. Ability to perform basic mathematical and budget operations. Interpersonal skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, ability to multi‑task effectively in a high volume environment, organizational skills and effective verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supervising technical personnel. Specialty certification within the automotive industry. Special Conditions of Employment Required to hold a valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies and procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. Job Functions and Percentages of Time 40% Supervision: Supervises and participates in the repair and maintenance of all UCSB vehicles. Inspections, repairs and maintenance include brakes, steering, suspension, tires, fuel, lighting, drivetrain, interior and exterior vehicle systems and all other vehicle systems. Sets priorities for the garage. Oversees the daily repair and preventative maintenance schedules. Supervises the maintenance and servicing schedules for the fleet, including preventative, elective, regular and emergency maintenance. Monitors and supervises the service schedule to ensure compliance to commitments made to customers. Assigns and evaluates work giving highest priority to vehicle safety. Ensures employees meet high work safety standards while performing repairs. Sets Work Schedules for garage employees. 20% Purchasing Parts, Supplies, & Tools: Assists with planning for new vehicle purchases. Reviews specifications and makes recommendations to the Transportation Services Manager. Plans and oversees the expenditure for the purchase of vehicle parts, tools and equipment for annual expenditures exceeding $200,000. Monitors work orders to ensure expenditures are accurately noted and assigned to the correct vehicle. Determines tool budget for each employee. Advise when vehicles need to be sold. Provide advisory support on fleet electrification and vehicles upgrade. 20% Safety and Security: Ensures compliance with inspections for University vehicles. These include vanpools, ambulances, hazardous waste vehicles and other inspected vehicles. Keeps documentation and safety records current and accurate. Monitor garage employees to ensure compliance with established safety procedures. Monitors the use of safety equipment at all times in order to prevent injuries. Respond promptly to shop emergencies. Notify Worker's Compensation Unit promptly of any injuries to employees and complete paperwork promptly. Keeps the shop area orderly. Maintains security of shop tools and equipment. 10% Training: Organizes technical and safety training for garage personnel. Attends appropriate technical training classes on current and emerging automotive technology. Provides technical assistance to other automotive technicians. 10% Inventory: Oversees the annual inventory of parts, tools, and equipment. Ensures tool boxes are complete and all tools are tracked.
