Breakfast / Lunch Server

Cafe Stella has been on Sunset in Silver Lake since 1998 — a French bistro with a gated patio, exposed brick, and a room full of regulars who've been coming for twenty years. Our daytime menu is proper bistro cooking: omelette baveuse, frisée aux lardons, croque madame, steak frites with béarnaise, and a wine list that moves between France and California. We're looking for a server to work brunch and lunch.

The role

You'll work daytime service, 3-4 days approximately 8:00am–3:00pm, from setup through the afternoon turn. The patio fills and stays full, so we want someone who can carry a busy section without losing warmth — attentive, unhurried in feel, quick in practice.

Day to day:

• Run a full section. Greet, guide, fire, and follow through on your tables from arrival to check, keeping pace with the kitchen and the room.
• Know the menu and the list. Guests ask, and we want real answers — how the eggs are prepared, what's in the croque provençal, which glass pours well with brunch. You should be comfortable talking about French wine without a script.
• Handle setup and sidework. Opening the patio and dining room, polishing, stocking, running the coffee station, and resetting cleanly for the next shift.
• Work the reservation flow. Managing turns, walk-ins, and a wait list on a busy Saturday without letting anyone feel forgotten.
• Take care of regulars. A good number of our guests have been coming for years. Learning names and habits is a real part of this job.
• Communicate with the kitchen and front of house. Allergies, modifications, timing, and anything going sideways — early, and clearly.

What we're looking for

• 3+ years serving in a full-service restaurant. French, Mediterranean, or wine-focused background preferred.
• Genuine wine knowledge, or a strong interest and the willingness to learn ours quickly.
• Comfort with French menu terminology and pronunciation.
• Warmth under pressure. Our brunch rush is sustained, and the guests should never feel it.
• Strong attention to detail — timing, temperatures, water glasses, the check dropped at the right moment.
• Reliability on an early shift. Mornings don't forgive no-shows, and we look after the people who show up.
• Valid California Food Handler card and RBS (Responsible Beverage Service) certification, or willingness to obtain both — RBS is required within 60 days of hire.

• French language ability is a nice bonus, not a requirement.
