About The Job As an Embedded Software Engineer , you will architect and implement mission‑critical software for next‑generation UAV flight computers. You will bridge flight algorithms and custom avionics hardware, developing high‑performance C++ applications that guarantee deterministic control and absolute system reliability. You will collaborate with electrical and GNC engineers to design and implement complex physical‑digital interactions using MATLAB/Simulink . What You’ll Do Design, develop, and test C++ flight software and hardware, sensor, and actuator integrations. Analyze and decompose system requirements collaboratively with other engineering disciplines. Write software requirements specifications, test descriptions, design descriptions, and test reports. Implement, test, and document software according to KUAS specifications. Compensation $160,000 - $225,000 per year Required Qualifications BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or 15 years of experience in lieu of a BS degree. 10 years of C or C++ programming experience. Demonstrated understanding of object‑oriented programming principles and real‑time operating systems. Demonstrated understanding of the software development life cycle and thorough documentation of software requirements. Hands‑on ability to troubleshoot hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulation modeling and perform firmware updates. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Atlassian tools, MATLAB/Simulink, VxWorks, and LabVIEW. Skill in implementing interface controls based on MBSE design documentation. Familiarity with OMS/UCI, A‑GRA, STANAG 4586, DO‑178C, AS9100, and DoDI 8500.01. Work Environment / Physical Requirements Hybrid Roseville, CA office: work from home on Mondays and Fridays, in‑office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Office or manufacturing environment. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive motions such as typing, using a 10‑key keypad, and handling phones. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines. Relocation This position may offer relocation assistance based on candidate eligibility. Travel Requirements 5–10% travel may be required between other KUAS locations.
