Emergency Department Physician
We are seeking an Emergency Department and Hospitalist Physician to provide 24/7 emergency and inpatient coverage at a 13-bed community hospital in Winnebago, Nebraska. This dual-responsibility role provides emergency care to patients of all ages while also serving as the Hospitalist for the inpatient unit, with an average inpatient census of approximately 1 patient. The position offers approximately 10 shifts per month, with 7A7P or 7P7A scheduling, and provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a collaborative community healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide urgent and emergent medical care to patients of all ages in the Emergency Department.
Serve as the Hospitalist for the inpatient unit while providing Emergency Department coverage.
Manage an average inpatient census of approximately 1 patient.
Provide inpatient medical care to adult patients consistent with the hospital's capabilities.
Evaluate and manage emergency medical conditions, trauma, behavioral health needs, and urgent conditions involving pregnant patients.
Perform appropriate emergency and inpatient procedures, including intubation, difficult airway management, central line placement, chest tube placement, and other procedures within scope of practice.
Manage trauma patients in accordance with established protocols.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical documentation.
Participate as an active member of the medical staff and support high-quality, safe, patient-centered care.
Collaborate with advanced practice providers and supervise physician assistants as requested.
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, utilization review, case management, and patient engagement initiatives.
Participate in the education of medical students, residents, and other healthcare professional students as appropriate.
Maintain compliance with CMS, EMTALA, HIPAA, state, federal, Tribal, and organizational requirements.
Demonstrate culturally competent, respectful, and empathetic care to the community served.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an ABMS-recognized residency in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.
Board certification and maintenance of certification in the appropriate specialty.
Active and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. jurisdiction.
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications.
Strong emergency medicine and inpatient clinical skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions in a community hospital setting.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Commitment to patient-centered and culturally responsive care.
Schedule
Approximately 10 shifts per month
Day: 7:00 AM7:00 PM
Night: 7:00 PM7:00 AM
