Park Campground Host Volunteer

Anoka County is seeking a Park Campground Host volunteer to serve as a "live-in" volunteer at Bunker Hills/Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campground during the period of late April through mid-October. The primary responsibility is to provide excellent guest services by assisting campers in answering questions and explaining rules that apply to them in a professional and helpful manner. Hosts should be familiar with the campground rules and the reasoning behind them. It is expected that campground hosts will maintain positive, collaborative, and professional interactions with all Parks Department team members, in addition to the public. This position is a very important part of our customer service team.

Campground hosts are provided with a free site in return for services provided. Campground hosts' camping units and equipment may remain on-site during the full time of the host agreement. Hosts will be provided annual vehicle entry permits for their vehicles.

Job duties and responsibilities include becoming familiar with local points of interest and the location where local services can be obtained, i.e., ATMs, groceries, supplies, and attractions; light cleanup of campground; keeping restroom building neat and stocked between visits of regular cleaning crews; assisting in directing visitors to campsites and explaining camping fees; assisting with camping activities; assisting check-ins at the office; after-hours camping check-in and firewood sales; assisting with emergency evacuation/notifications during severe weather; helping with setting up campground programs/events as needed; monitoring campground loops and performing morning and evening rounds to ensure all campers are registered; working with visitor center attendants and park services to assist with campground site tag deliveries/removals; and being on-call to assist campers when the campground visitor center is closed, or attendants are unavailable.

Qualifications and requirements include owning or having access to a camper, being available to serve for the entire camping season, and successfully passing a criminal background check.

The selection process requires that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions.

Pre-employment requirements may include passing a pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks.
