North Hills NY 11042/ppGeneral Summary/ppThe Radiation Therapist is an essential member of the Radiation Oncology team who primarily functions in a specialized area of radiation therapy technology in the role of direct patient care provider in the Radiation Oncology Center. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for the performance of all duties relating to the administration of a prescribed course of Radiation Therapy. The Radiation Therapist must be able to understand and carry out complex medical prescriptions and be able to work under pressure. Furthermore, the Radiation Therapist must be able to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to personnel, patients, and physicians, and be task and detail oriented. Most importantly, the Radiation Therapist provides quality patient care in relation to the patients prescribed diagnosis and treatment needs./ppEssential Job Function/Competencies/ppResponsibilities include but are not limited to:/pulliAccurately and efficiently reviews and/or administers daily prescribed Radiation Therapy treatments to patients assigned to the treatment unit at a speed consistent with patient scheduling./liliObserves and adheres to all department policies concerning Radiation Therapy treatment procedures./liliPrepares room and equipment for patient by gathering all necessary equipment, supplies, and setup devices./liliSets appropriate treatment unit parameters./liliActivates the treatment unit and delivers the prescribed dose of radiation./liliMaintains visual and/or audible communication with the patient during treatment./liliObtains appropriate port films on patients when prescribed; makes adjustments in field placement as needed./liliThroughout the course of Radiation Therapy, monitors patients for unusual reactions and events, and reports same to Clinical Director and Radiation Oncologist./liliKeeps immobilization devices in a clean and orderly manner and utilize the devices as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist./liliMaintains current knowledge of therapeutic procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department./liliPossesses basic knowledge of Radiation Oncology equipment function to provide for minor repair and troubleshooting for problems; water and gas levels, laser alignment, etc./liliProficient in the utilization of all Radiation Oncology equipment in the department including CT(s)./liliUtilizes appropriate body mechanics in moving/lifting patients and equipment to prevent injury to patients and to self./liliApplies safety principles in the performance of position responsibilities./liliRecords Radiation Oncology charges as procedures are performed./liliKeeps records of machine down time and maintains machine fault list report./liliAssists her Supervisor in placing and scheduling service calls./liliEnsures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed./liliEnsuring that all medical records are accurate and complete within the system for all patients./liliPerforms other position related duties as assigned./liliEmployees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
