On-Call EMS Paramedic

SUMMARY OF JOB A City of Ferris EMS Paramedic is responsible for maintaining readiness and providing emergency support to preserve the lives of the citizens in the City of Ferris in the event of a medical emergency. Performs technical work providing rescue operations, and patient care at the scenes of emergency situations. This position has primary responsibility for the delivery of safe, high quality advanced emergency care to patients. Operates medical equipment along with a variety of emergency apparatus, maintains paramedic certification, and attends training. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prompt and regular attendance at work. Effectively follow all City of Ferris and DPS policies, procedures, guidelines, and chain of command. Must pass a protocol exam & scenario and follow medical care practices as documented in City of Ferris and DPS EMS Protocols and mandates by the Medical Control Board. The scope of medical practice will be confined to medical practice as defined by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), unless otherwise specified by directives or protocols from the Medical Director. Maintain all required certifications according to City of Ferris and DPS policy. Attendance at all Continuing Education (CE) courses as policy dictates. Assess and treat any medical situation with appropriate techniques, resources, and equipment while maintaining the highest standard of patient care and professionalism according to current company standards. Conduct self in a highly ethical and professional manner projecting a positive company image while always maintaining a neat and professional appearance in accordance with company policies. Maintain a positive, professional, and cooperative working relationship with physicians, nurses, public safety agencies, the public, allied health professionals, and other members of our EMS system. Complete all documentation regarding patient care and billing information in accordance with City of Ferris and DPS policy. Maintain thorough knowledge of the ambulance and its equipment, its function and use, and report any malfunction or damage to equipment promptly in accordance with City of Ferris and DPS policy. Maintain the ambulance in a clean, organized and response-ready mode. When assigned as an Operator/Driver, will be responsible to always operate the assigned ambulance under control and in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws that govern ambulance operation, and in accordance with approved City of Ferris and DPS policy and safe and efficient ambulance operation. Responsible for safe handling of patient transport during loading and unloading, transport on stretcher, and actual transport on the ambulance. Function as Medical Command, as required. QUALIFICATIONS Experience Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling and usage is required. Excellent, positive interpersonal/communication skills. Ability to read/write. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Self‑motivated efficient work habits. Work well in a team. Provide positive customer service. Subject to many interruptions. Frequent exposure to a variety of elements including cleaning supplies. Exposure to patients with various ailments and from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Understand and adapts service techniques based on patient age and cultural background. Certification and Licensure Texas DSHS certification as EMT‑P, required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, required. Possess and maintain all certifications required by the Medical Control Board. Possess and maintain current Texas motor vehicle operator’s license and meet all City requirements according to policy. International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification or Pre‑hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification, preferred. Pediatric Education for Pre‑Hospital Professionals (PEPP) certification or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, preferred. Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) basic firefighter, preferred. Compliance Requirements Comply with regulatory requirements, guidelines, and policies. SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES None. WORKING CONDITIONS A) EFFORT Approximately 25% office activities, 40% on‑scene locations, 20% equipment maintenance, 10% training, and 5% representing the city. Lifts from floor and moves items weighing up to one hundred pounds. B) ENVIRONMENT Performs work under both normal office conditions and field operations. Exposed to an outdoor environment, subject to extremes of temperature and inclement weather. Also, able to represent City at functions outside of the city offices. C) HAZARDS Standard occupational office hazards, intermittent exposure to dust, fumes, loud noise intensity, and hazardous chemicals. #J-18808-Ljbffr
