## Utility Maintenance Mechanic IApply: Utility Services: Full time: Posted 4 Days Ago: End Date: October 21, 2026 (10 days left to apply): JR100048**SALARY:**$19.60 - $34.30**NATURE OF WORK****Grade:**BOCC-B80-4 b**Job Class:**7 - Operatives (EEO-1 Job Categories-United States of America), Tier 1 - • Normal duties would include preparation for, response to, and recovery from a disaster • Not excused from work during a disaster • Most likely called in to work prior to onset, will report when summoned or no less than 18 hours before onset of TS force winds • Provided with food, water, shelter VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE A PLAN (Tier Status)**Worker Comp Code:**7580 - Sewage Disposal Plant Operation & Drivers (United States of America)**EEO Classification:**7 - Operatives (EEO-1 Job Categories-United States of America)**JOB TYPE:**Employee**NATURE OF JOB:****ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*** Performs comprehensive preventative maintenance on all equipment including but not limited to pumps, valves, compressors, gates, and other on-site equipment and machinery.* Maintains complete and accurate records of all maintenance and repairs, and reports it to the Maintenance Mechanic Foreman, or Mechanic II.* Assists in fabrication and/or installs minor equipment and piping modifications and additions.* Assists in performing equipment vibration analysis and thermal imaging to develop predictive maintenance needs and schedule.* Ability to learn how to operate backhoes, loaders, tractors, skid steers, and other various equipment.* Becomes familiar with the operational and maintenance aspects of all Utility sites, pump stations, plants, and properties.* The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.* Performs other related duties as assigned. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:*** Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent; AND* One (1) year of experience in the repair and maintenance of the types of equipment found in either industrial plants, refineries, chemical plants, commercial shipyards, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, and collection systems.* A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. **LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:*** Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.* Possession of or obtain and maintain a Florida Commercial Driver’s license (minimum Class A) within one (1) year from date of hire as a condition of employment. **KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:*** Knowledge of repair and maintenance procedures for the types of equipment found in Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Storage Facilities, Pumping Stations, and Lift Stations.* Knowledge of and experience using a wide assortment of hand and power tools and other repair or maintenance equipment, including safety equipment.* Knowledge of safety procedures and precautions required when performing maintenance tasks on equipment typically found in the wastewater plant.* Knowledge of project management and organizational skills.* Ability to learn troubleshooting techniques and repairs, maintains and/or calibrates mechanical, electrical, electronic and ancillary equipment associated with the County’s Water and Waste-Water treatment facilities, Collection Sites, and Storage/Distribution Sites: inclusive of items such as pumps, valves, motors, air compressors, sensors and telemetry equipment, ultraviolet light disinfection equipment, solids centrifuge equipment, flow meters, generators and related equipment.* Ability to learn how to utilize the Computer Maintenance Management System to effectively control resources and manage assets.* Ability to have excellent oral and written communication skills.* Ability to work and maintain reliable full-time attendance.* Ability to comprehend, speak, and read the English language.* Ability to have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.* Ability to read and comprehend complex technical information and mechanical drawings concerning equipment construction, repair and maintenance procedures.* Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, subordinates and supervisors. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:**Work is primarily performed outdoors and requires exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust. This position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations or clearances. This position requires stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, visual acuity (i.e. seeing up close, seeing far away, depth perception), kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions.
