Emergency Management Coordinator

Overview Office of Emergency Services (County OES) is recruiting Emergency Management Coordinators to support a wide range of preparedness and coordination efforts across the county. The role assists with community outreach and preparedness education, maintains technology and applications, and provides interagency support. It also collects and analyzes data related to community preparedness, drafts reports and correspondence, maintains records of emergency plans, and helps review and update emergency preparedness plans and protocols. About the Department The Office of Emergency Services is responsible for countywide emergency planning, mitigation, response, and recovery activities. It works with all County departments and 24 cities, as well as many non‑government organizations. In the event of an emergency, OES manages the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and coordinates the county's disaster response with local, state, and federal governments. The Director of Emergency Services oversees the day‑to‑day administration of the county's disaster preparedness and response program and the development of the Emergency Operations Plan. One of the primary functions is to keep the EOC in a constant state of readiness. Conditions of Employment Must pass a background check and a physical medical exam prior to appointment. Travel throughout the County is required. Employees must provide a valid California driver licence and proof of automobile liability insurance. Specialized certifications may be required, depending on assignment. Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Applicants must meet one of the following options: Option 1 – Experience: Provide support during Emergency Operations Center activations totaling three days, or participate in three natural disaster drills within the last three years. Experience may be gained through multiple incidents, drills, or activations that collectively equal three days of participation. Option 2 – Education: Complete a Career Technical Education program in Emergency Response; or a military training program (certificates attached); or 30 semester units (45 quarter) of post‑secondary coursework in emergency management, emergency response, public safety, homeland security, fire science, public health preparedness, or a closely related field. Transcripts must be attached. Option 3 – Experience: One year of full‑time equivalent clerical experience supporting emergency management, disaster preparedness, public safety, public health preparedness, or homeland security programs. Emergency Dispatcher experience is not considered qualifying. Important notes: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any recognized accrediting association in the United States. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to U.S. accredited institutions. Ideal Candidate Qualifications Associate's degree in Risk Management, GIS, Homeland Security, or Emergency Management. Knowledge and exposure to the duties and responsibilities of the Office of Emergency Services. Strong technical abilities and comfort working with software, data, and modern digital tools, and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
