DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is seeking an experienced Injury Prevention professional to support systemwide injury reduction programs across all UC San Diego Health locations. The Injury Prevention Specialist will focus on reducing employee injury risk through program implementation, field support, training, and process improvements that address high-risk activities and regulatory requirements. This role serves as a cross-program resource supporting multiple injury prevention initiatives, including ergonomics, safe patient handling, sharps safety, exposure reduction, respiratory protection, and general safety compliance. The specialist will work across sites and departments to standardize practices, close gaps, and support consistent program execution in coordination with different stakeholders. This is a hands-on, operational role requiring strong field presence, collaboration with frontline staff, and the ability to translate requirements into practical workflows. The Injury Prevention Specialist will support program rollout, conduct rounding and observations, track trends, and assist with corrective actions to reduce injury risk and improve compliance. This position provides multi-site support across the health system; work hours may vary based on operational needs and includes participation in an EH&S on-call rotation. Key Responsibilities: Injury Prevention Program Support (25%): Support implementation of systemwide injury prevention programs, including ergonomics, safe patient handling, sharps safety, and exposure reduction. Partner with departments to reinforce safe work practices and reduce injury risk. Cross-Program & Multi-Site Support (20%): Work across multiple programs and locations to support consistency, identify gaps, and assist with system-level solutions. Provide coverage and support based on operational needs and shifting priorities. Program Implementation & Rollouts (15%): Assist with rollout of new programs, equipment, and process changes, including safe patient handling equipment conversions and respiratory protection (CAPR) implementation. Support departments during transitions to ensure safe and consistent adoption. Rounding, Observations & Hazard Identification (15%): Conduct site rounding and observations to identify injury risks, unsafe practices, and compliance gaps. Work with departments to implement corrective actions. Training & Staff Support (10%): Deliver practical, task-based training to frontline staff. Reinforce proper techniques, equipment use, and program expectations across multiple departments. Incident Support & Trend Tracking (10%): Support review of injury trends, assist with follow-up actions, and help identify opportunities for prevention. Partner with teams to address recurring issues. Regulatory & Compliance Support (5%): Assist with implementation of regulatory requirements, including Cal/OSHA-related safety programs and updates to investigation and reporting requirements. Other Duties as Assigned: Provide additional support across EH&S and Injury Prevention programs as needed based on operational priorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or allied health field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five (5+) years of experience in injury prevention, occupational health, healthcare safety, or related field. OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) required within six (6) months of hire. Experience supporting injury prevention programs including use of relevant equipment for the program. Experience conducting rounding, observations, or workplace safety assessments. Ability to support multiple sites and adapt to changing operational needs. Willingness to work variable hours based on business needs and participate in an on‑call rotation. Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with frontline staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in healthcare or large, multi‑site organizations. Experience supporting Cal/OSHA compliance programs and investigations. Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or program specific certs. Experience working with injury data, trends, or prevention strategies.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $100,100 - $187,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $47.94 - $89.80 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
