Our work ensures Iowans are informed and engaged in the regulatory processes that affect their daily lives. Through effective oversight, we help safeguard public safety, reliability, and fairness in utility services. As part of our team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance, supporting safe operations, and protecting Iowa communities. What You’ll Do As a Utilities Regulation Inspector for our Pipeline Safety & Engineering bureau, you will: Inspect physical facilities, records, programs, construction projects, and operations of public and private gas utilities. Evaluate compliance with state and federal rules, regulations, and safety standards during on‑site inspections. Assist utilities in understanding and applying codes and standards while identifying unsafe installations or practices. Investigate incidents and failures involving natural gas facilities to determine causes and recommend corrective measures. Review and respond to safety or service complaints by conducting investigations, analyzing records, and interviewing stakeholders. Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed technical reports documenting inspections, findings, and recommendations. Collaborate with colleagues and provide guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent regulatory oversight. Who We’re Looking For Strong knowledge of natural gas utility practices, operations, and safety regulations. Familiarity with technical engineering principles related to pipeline system operations. Skill in applying codes and standards to real‑world installations and operations. The ability to travel throughout Iowa (and occasionally out of state) for inspections and investigations. The ability to successfully complete the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s training and qualification program. A collaborative approach, with strong communication and relationship‑building skills. Your Competencies Technical Knowledge: Understanding of natural gas pipeline systems, installations, and regulations. Analytical Skills: Ability to investigate incidents, analyze data, and recommend corrective actions. Attention to Detail: Commitment to accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance. Communication: Ability to write clear technical reports and explain findings to diverse audiences. Integrity: High ethical standards, accountability, and professionalism. Initiative: Self‑motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision. Teamwork: Build trust, pride, and cooperation within the organization. Minimum Qualification Requirements
