Pet Therapy Volunteer

The Volunteer for Pet Therapy is a member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team and performs duties which supplement, but do not substitute, for professional services. The volunteer can provide empathetic, nonjudgmental, listening and caring presence for the hospice patient.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Included but not limited to:

• Support Hospice staff, families, caregivers and friends:
• Exhibit a listening, caring, and compassionate presence;
• Demonstrates empathetic, judgment-free communication and support to patient/family;
• Document fulfillment of duties in writing with time, date, and signature to the Hospice office in timely manner;
• Adhere to Centra Hospice's policies regarding confidentiality.

The Volunteer demonstrates the ability to speak on the level necessary to convey appropriate information to diverse populations. Duties are performed accurately, timely, and individual is present when expected. A calm and soothing demeanor is needed at all times when in a patient's presence. Performs other duties as assigned.
