Software Engineer - Sr ConsultantWe are seeking a Software Engineer - Sr Consultant to lead the design and delivery of critical platform capabilities within Visa's Intelligent Commerce ecosystem.This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, APIs, and intelligent commerce experiences. You will drive technical solutions across multiple services, partner closely with Product and Architecture, and provide technical leadership for complex engineering initiatives.This is a highly hands-on leadership role requiring strong system design expertise, execution excellence, and the ability to influence engineering decisions across teams.Essential Functions:Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend platforms, APIs, and distributed systemsDrive architecture and technical design across multiple services and componentsPartner with Product Managers and Architects to create scalable technical solutionsLead delivery of large, complex initiatives from design through production deploymentServe as technical lead for key platform investments and strategic capabilitiesContribute hands-on to coding, design reviews, debugging, and performance optimizationEstablish engineering best practices across reliability, observability, security, and scalabilityDrive adoption of cloud-native architectures and modern development practicesMentor engineers and provide technical guidance across teamsCollaborate across organizations to align dependencies and deliver integrated solutionsIdentify opportunities for platform reuse, simplification, and cost optimizationChampion AI-assisted engineering workflows and development productivity improvements.Why This Role:Build foundational services powering the future of Intelligent CommerceDrive architecture and platform evolution at global scaleWork on AI-enabled and agent-driven commerce experiencesInfluence technical direction while remaining deeply involved in implementation.Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.QualificationsBasic Qualifications:8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.Preferred Qualifications:9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD10+ years building and operating distributed systems at scaleExpert-level experience in Java and/or PythonStrong expertise with microservices, APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CDProven experience leading architecture and design for complex systemsExperience driving delivery across multiple engineering teamsExposure to AI platforms, agent-driven systems, or intelligent commerce workflowsExperience improving engineering processes, reliability, and developer productivitySkills You Bring:Technical Leadership: Leads design and delivery of major engineering initiativesArchitecture Depth: Designs scalable, resilient platform solutionsExecution: Drives projects from concept through productionCollaboration: Partners effectively across engineering, product, and architectureInfluence: Guides technical decision-making without direct authorityMentorship: Elevates team capability through coaching and technical leadershipAI-Forward Thinking: Embraces modern engineering tools and workflows.U.S. Applicants OnlyThe estimated salary range for this position is $152,200.00 to $ 243,700.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
