Overview of the Role:

The Electrical Design Engineer III, New Product Development, is responsible for moderate to complex electrical engineering design projects within the new product development team. This role involves performing technical research, leading the design and development of electrical components and products, sourcing cutting-edge electronics, and managing advanced prototyping and testing efforts. The Electrical Design Engineer III will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet business and technical requirements and will support manufacturing to ensure successful production. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Electrical Design Leadership: Lead the design and development of electrical components and products for moderate to complex scale projects, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Advanced Prototyping, Testing, & Validation: Oversee the creation, testing, and refinement of advanced electrical prototypes, ensuring performance, safety, and cost objectives are achieved. Must maintain external focus – among suppliers, academic advancements, competitors, industry events – to proactively identify and recommend technologies that could be integrated into Woodstream.
• Collaboration & Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with sourcing teams to select advanced electronic components, provide final electrical specifications, and support the transition from design to production, ensuring seamless execution.

The Electrical Design Engineer III will work closely with the Director of Engineering to ensure that the technical vision is executed efficiently across the product development lifecycle. This individual will be responsible for finalizing electrical specifications and supporting the manufacturing process to ensure smooth production transitions, contributing to the company’s long-term growth and innovation objectives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and refinement of electrical components and advanced prototypes for moderate to complex new product development projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, performance, safety, and cost objectives.
• Collaborate with Sourcing and Manufacturing Teams to identify, integrate, and manage electronic components that meet project specifications and quality standards, providing final electrical specifications and overseeing the transition from design to production.
• Design new electronics hardware and firmware, modify existing schematics and layouts, and maintain existing products, addressing component obsolescence and adding new functionality as required.
• Develop and conduct testing techniques that meet regulatory and functional requirements, ensuring designs incorporate manufacturing limitations and performance attributes, while defining tolerances for critical components.
• Benchmark competitive products and maintain up-to-date knowledge of product designs and capabilities to identify Woodstream’s competitive advantages and areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with the Director of Engineering, New Product Development to prepare and present technical developments within Woodstream. Develop compelling product demonstrations, technical specifications, and other support materials that clearly communicate Woodstream’s innovation capabilities.
• Display perseverance and flexibility in overcoming technical challenges. Approach setbacks as opportunities to find alternative solutions, maintaining a proactive, growth-oriented mindset to drive project success.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are required.

This position has several primary objectives which are critical to the overall success of Woodstream:

• Lead the design, development, and refinement of electrical components and prototypes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project goals.
• Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing teams to integrate components, oversee production transitions, and meet quality standards.
• Drive innovation through testing, benchmarking, and continuous improvement to maintain Woodstream’s competitive advantage.

Other Functions:

• Performs other duties as assigned
• Position could include up to 5-10% travel for project meetings, supplier visits, and production assessments. 

Successful Candidate Profile:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 
• At least 5 years’ experience in consumer product development, PCB level product design, IC selection, BOM development and other related EE engineering activities
• This position requires expertise in appropriate computer design software and/or hardware (i.e., OrCAD, Altium, EagleCAD, DipTrace, KiCAD, UpVerter, Fritzing, CircuitMaker, ZenitPCB) 
• Experience writing embedded firmware code is required.
• Experience in RF (radio frequency) product design is highly desirable.
• Expertise in IOT and machine learning is highly desirable
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills. 
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
