Oncology Registered Nurse

The position focuses on the care of oncology and non-oncology patients. The average daily census in the unit is 40 patients with a standard daily visit of 7. The patient demographic ranges from adults to geriatrics. Each nurse is expected to manage a patient ratio of 6-7 patients per day. The work setting includes both an infusion center and outpatient oncology services. The nurse will be responsible for administering chemotherapy and managing related procedures. Participation in weekend shifts is required every six weeks for approximately two hours. Special procedures performed include chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy infusion. The nurse will also care for patients receiving bone marrow transplants and stem cell therapies. Knowledge in handling oncologic emergencies is crucial. Pain management techniques will be part of the responsibilities. Essential skills for this position include care coordination, symptom management, and psychosocial care. The nurse should be familiar with using specialized equipment such as infusion pumps. Support for patients and their families is a vital part of the role. The ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams is necessary for providing high-quality care. This position requires managing medications, including antibiotics, antifungals, and various oncology drugs.
