This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. The ER RN assesses, delegates, coordinates, and evaluates the nursing care provided. Ensures the provision of quality care for selected groups of patients through utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to them. Essential Job Functions: Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms. Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended first. Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders. Perform emergency procedures like wound care and splinting. Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and response to treatments, adjusting interventions as needed. Work closely with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff. Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care in electronic health records or paper charts as required. Provide patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions. Respond to rapid response calls and code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention. Ensure that the patients’ rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care. Follow all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff. Participate in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggest improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes. Perform other related duties as assigned. Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes. Extend arms and hands in any direction. Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands. Pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers. Perceive such attributes of objects or materials such as size, shape, temperature, or texture. Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed. Lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing are required. Capable of working long shifts, sometimes in high-stress demanding situations. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Working Conditions: Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Occasionally subject to combative patients. Variable noise levels present in the environment. Subject to rapid pace, multiple stimuli, unpredictable environment, and critical situations. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergency departments operate 24/7.
