Position Title: Development and Community Engagement Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

Primary Location: Osage Beach and St. Robert, Missouri

Classification: Full-Time Exempt

 

Kids’ Harbor, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 child advocacy center serving 10 counties and the Fort Leonard Wood Military Installation in southwest and central Missouri for over 20 years. Our mission is to provide coordinated response, healing, and prevention of child abuse.

General Summary

This is a full-time position working with a non-profit organization serving child victims of all types of abuse, neglect, drug endangerment, and witnesses to violence. This position will report directly to the Executive Director. The Development and Community Engagement Manager serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting Kids’ Harbor, Inc. The primary function of the Development and Community Engagement Manager is to develop processes, strategies, and programs to identify, cultivate, track, and solicit individual, corporate, foundation, and government funding sources.

Essential Functions

Strategic Planning:

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, set ambitious and attainable goals specifically aimed at cultivating and soliciting donors, donations, sponsorships, and event attendance
  • Create and implement an annual funding plan that includes budget overview, strategies, and processes to meet goals
  • Understands the financial landscape of Kids’ Harbor, including short-term and long-term needs, and adapts development plans and strategies as needed
  • Oversee the coordination of community outreach efforts through networking, collaborative partnerships, media exposure, and other opportunities that connect Kids’ Harbor to the broader community
  • Report to the Executive Director on the progress and effectiveness of development initiatives and generate regular reports that clearly and concisely communicate progress and results

  Donor Cultivation and Management:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and build relationships with individual and corporate donors and foundations through market research, donor calls, prospect calls, and agency referrals
  • Implement strategies defined in the funding plan and recommend additional strategies to develop prospect relationships to increase the donor base
  • Meet with agency leadership to further strengthen the agency’s major foundation partnerships
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate and foundation sponsors and individual donors
  • Plan, manage, and direct activities to ensure they meet donor cultivation and management behavior and funding goals
  • Report to the Executive Director on the monthly progress of the development plan
  • Assist with design and distribution of agency promotional materials, donor recognition, and other agency correspondence

  Fundraising/Event Management:

  • Manage and implement annual development plan and strategy
  • Ensure organization of all Kids’ Harbor special events are completed and within established budget
  • Lead marketing plan for events to ensure profitability, securing appropriate sponsorships and attendance with support of the Executive Director and agency leadership team
  • Provide pre- and post-event guidance, including planning, timelines, and analysis

  Database and Records Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of the Development Department engaged in maintaining the donor database and paper records of contributors and grants
  • Maintain security and quality controls to ensure confidentiality and accurate accounting of information, including an accurate accounting of all unrestricted and restricted income and source
  • Oversight of donor gift processing, acknowledgments, tax credits, and tax receipts processes
  • Interface with the Executive Director, Bookkeeper, and Contracted Grant Writer to fulfill information requests and maintain reporting accuracy
  • Monitor all donor information and provide statistical analysis to the Executive Director
  • Oversee the intake of data and contributions to ensure that proper information capture and donor recognition occurs

  Other Duties:

  • Develop, create goals and objectives, and manage a comprehensive social media plan ensuring the agency's mission is represented in all communications
  • Recruit, train, motivate, and retain agency volunteers
  • Engage in high-quality professional practice reflective of Kids’ Harbor’s policies and procedures, state and federal statutes, accreditation standards, contractual conditions, and established best practices
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, professional development, and where appropriate, represent Kids’ Harbor in task forces and committees
  • Complete additional duties and special projects, as assigned

Performance Measurables

 Growth in qualified prospects entering the development pipeline

  • Conversion rate from engagement to first-time donors
  • Year-over-year growth in campaign performance (revenue + participation)
  • Event-to-donor conversion rates
  • Volunteer-to-donor conversion rates
  • Donor retention rates
  • Growth in audience reach and engagement across digital platforms
  • Contribution to overall private revenue goals. Contribution income from fundraising efforts of donations and events to meet budgeted expectations
  • Face-to-face existing and prospect meetings for the purpose of executing development strategies to meet budgeted expectations
  • Analyze and report event attendance and profitability

  Specific Job Skills

  • Demonstrated skill in networking between individuals, agencies, and professionals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent public relations skills including the ability to make public presentations
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain meticulous records for financial audit, grant compliance, and donor transparency processes
  • Ability to use or learn technology support systems, including Office 365, donor database software, copiers, and other supportive programs.
  • Ability to take action to achieve goals beyond what is required
  • Attend annual agency functions, special events, and meetings as necessary and appropriate
  • Remain abreast of issues related to child abuse, child sexual abuse, neglect, and child trauma
  • Perform job duties as laid out in Kids’ Harbor’s policies and procedures, standard operating procedures, and the recommended practice model as established by the National Children’s Alliance

Required Education/Experience/Training

Equivalent life and/or professional experiences will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required and an emphasis in non-profit, marketing, sales, communications, public relations, management, or other development-related field is preferred
  • Prior fundraising or similar experience, particularly related to event planning, donor cultivation, obtaining donor cultivation, and solicitation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public relations skills, and the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, community organizations, and more
  • The ideal candidate must operate effectively as part of a team, show commitment to child abuse prevention, trauma awareness, have experience in and commitment to building and supporting trauma informed organizations committed to equity, inclusion, and advocacy, have the ability to motivate others to be effective team players and the ability to incorporate values of shared responsibility; open, honest, and direct communication; respect for others and celebration of diversity into assigned duties

  Special Requirements

  • Satisfactory criminal background investigation and Child Abuse/Neglect screening is a condition of employment
  • Must Provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed) have a valid Missouri driver’s license, dependable vehicle, and a minimum acceptable vehicle liability insurance limit, maintaining at least $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to function harmoniously in a small but busy workplace
  • Willingness to accommodate travel and work evenings when necessary
  • Must acknowledge and adhere to Kids’ Harbor’s confidentiality policy and procedures and must adhere strictly to the highest professional ethics, confidentiality, discretion, and judgement

  REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The attention to detail necessary to read and develop center materials along with verbal skills to communicate with the public. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, children, families, multidiscipline team members, and the general public. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid and reliable conclusions. Ability to recognize and acknowledge vicarious trauma in the workplace and utilize the resources provided to address/mitigate the trauma's impact.

Physical: Must be able to use general office equipment and use computer software. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds; working under pressure to meet deadlines. Must be willing to accommodate limited travel and work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays (minimal) if necessary.

WORK SETTING

Must be able to function amicably in a small, but busy workplace. Must acknowledge and adhere to the agency’s policies and procedures including confidentiality and code of conduct and adhere to the highest professional ethics, confidentiality, direction and judgment.

WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position; business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular evening and occasional weekend work may be required.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required throughout the Kids’ Harbor, Inc. service area for meetings, collaboratives, donor engagement, events, etc.

Attendance: Regular attendance is a requirement of this position. Kids' Harbor, Inc. employees, who are full-time, are expected to work a 40 hour work week.
