Registered Respiratory Therapist

Responsible for the pulmonary care of critically ill, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician with minimal supervision. Performs patient assessments and institutes respiratory care plans. Conducts various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures throughout the health facility. Meets expectations of the applicable competencies. Participates in emergency response. Manages airway, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning. Delivers aerosolized drugs. Manages ventilation including setup and operation. Conducts oral hygiene. Handles airway retaining device placement and maintenance. Manages airway support devices, including BiPAP and CPAP. Administers oxygen delivery devices and therapeutic monitoring. Conducts chest film analysis, blood gas collection, and analysis. Performs EKG analysis and ensures accurate and completed documentation. Cleans and stocks equipment and supplies as necessary. Participates in surveys. May function as Shift Leader or serve in the capacity of Team Leader. Advanced practice skills may include therapeutic gas management and monitoring, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy assistance, hemodynamic monitoring, waveform analysis, nocturnal SpO2 evaluation, and transport duties.
