For more than 30 years, we've partnered with aviation, military, rail, and energy clients to design, manage, and sustain critical fuel systems that power global operations. We provide end-to-end services for supply, fuel storage, distribution, transportation, and dispensing systems, including facility planning, engineering design, regulatory compliance, asset integrity, and construction support. From small general aviation airports to major international hubs, class I railroads, marine terminals, and military bases, our team solves complex challenges with precision, quality, and long-term resiliency in mind. As part of Argus Companies, we collaborate closely with our construction and software partners to offer fully integrated services, from design through construction to digital facility services. This connected approach strengthens constructability, improves project continuity, and helps our clients achieve smarter infrastructure, stronger compliance, and more efficient operations. We are 100% employee-owned, with a culture grounded in Integrity, Competence, Teamwork, and the Golden Rule. Our engineers, project managers, and fuel specialists bring deep specialization, a hands-on approach, and a shared commitment to building strong partnerships and reliable, efficient fuel systems. Headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, with offices in New York, Phoenix, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, and Jackson, MS. Purpose of the Position The Regional Lead Mechanical Engineer serves as the senior technical leader for mechanical engineering activities across Argus' Northeast region. This role combines deep technical expertise with project execution leadership, providing oversight throughout the project lifecycle, from proposal support and planning through execution, quality review, and client delivery. Serving as a trusted technical resource for clients, project managers, and engineering teams, this leader will ensure projects are executed efficiently and in accordance with Argus standards and client requirements. In addition to technical leadership, the role plays a critical part in resource planning, work delegation, mentorship, and staff development across a growing mechanical engineering team. The successful candidate will help strengthen engineering capacity within the region by guiding junior engineers, supporting cross-functional collaboration with civil and electrical disciplines, and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. This position offers an opportunity for an experienced engineer to remain actively involved in complex technical work while expanding their influence across project execution, client engagement, and team leadership. As Argus continues to grow, the Regional Lead Mechanical Engineer will help ensure continuity of technical excellence, reinforce client confidence, and contribute to the ongoing development of the firm's engineering organization. Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee mechanical engineering activities across the assigned Northeast region, ensuring quality, consistency, and efficient execution of project work. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for project managers, clients, contractors, and internal teams on mechanical engineering matters. Participate in the proposal process, including technical scope development, labor planning, staffing assumptions, and execution strategy. Build out labor plans and project execution plans to ensure resources are aligned with project needs, schedules, and client commitments. Delegate work across the mechanical engineering team and provide direction to engineers at various experience levels. Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure deliverables meet Argus standards, client expectations, and applicable engineering codes and specifications. Mentor and develop lower-level engineers, helping build technical capability and leadership depth within the organization. Directly supervise approximately 1-7 engineers initially, with scope expected to grow over time. Collaborate closely with civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering leaders to deliver integrated project solutions. Support continuous improvement as Argus formalizes processes and builds infrastructure to support its growth. Represent Argus in client meetings, field visits, project reviews, commissioning activities, and selected business development discussions. Year One Critical Success Factors Build confidence with Argus' clients. Establish credibility with project managers and technical teams. Improve work delegation, quality control, and execution planning. Mentor lower-level engineers and create clearer technical leadership capacity. Help Argus continue scaling from a small-firm operating model to a more mature, mid-sized organization. The Candidate Argus is seeking a hands-on technical leader who wants to remain close to engineering while moving beyond the grind of individual technical execution. The successful candidate will be comfortable serving as a technical chief, mentor, reviewer, planner, and client interface. Experience and Professional Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a lead or senior technical role. Professional Engineer license required. Multi-state PE licensure is highly preferred and noted as required in the attached job description. Strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, standards, and best practices. Experience developing technical scopes, estimates, schedules, and execution plans. Demonstrated ability to review engineering work for quality, accuracy, and compliance. Strong client-facing communication skills and ability to serve as a trusted technical advisor. Ability and interest in mentoring, supervising, and developing engineering talent. Proactive, self-directed working style with the ability to learn independently and build process discipline in a growing organization. Preferred Experience in aviation fueling, jet fuel infrastructure, oil and gas, wastewater, or related fluid mechanics-heavy environments. Prior experience in a consulting engineering environment. Experience transitioning from a large-firm environment into a more entrepreneurial, hands-on, mid-sized company culture. Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, AFT Fathom, or similar programs. Employee Ownership - Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) participation after one year. Retirement Savings- 401(k) plan with a 3% company contribution, immediately vested.
