Clinical Manager, Behavioral Health and Wellness (Austin)

The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago’s mission is to end the cycle of gun violence in Chicago using Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s principles and teachings of nonviolence. Informed by a philosophy of nonviolence, Nonviolence Chicago will establish caring and sustained relationships with participants engaged in the cycle of violence. We will emphasize partnerships with community members, leaders, social service providers, and local law enforcement to reduce community levels of violence. We will help create a safer, healthier environment for young adults, youth, and their families. These general approaches will be specifically addressed using five major methods: Community Violence Intervention (CVI) / Street Outreach, Individualized Service Provision, Victim Support Services, Behavioral Health and Nonviolence Training. Position Overview The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago is currently seeking a Clinical Manager for the Behavioral Health and Wellness team to ensure quality services for participants. This is a senior, dual‑track role that combines clinical oversight with meaningful administrative and project ownership. This position will oversee the day‑to‑day efforts of the Behavioral Health Team and assist with the development and implementation of Behavioral Health and Wellness programming and services. The ultimate goal is to provide behavioral health services to individuals who are actively involved in street violence or recently impacted/exposed to community violence, as well as wellness programming to staff to improve employee health and program capacity. The Manager will report to the Associate Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has experience providing behavioral health services to addressing trauma to individuals affected by gun violence, experience providing clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians, has some experience with program development and implementation, has demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of Institute for Nonviolence Chicago, and has a passion for “healing the healers.” Essential Functions / Responsibilities Leadership & Collaboration Serve as the primary day‑to‑day operational leader for clinicians, fellows, interns, coordinators, and peer support specialists Lead team meetings, case staffing, and group clinical consultation; coordinate scheduling, coverage, and capacity planning Act as first point of escalation for staff concerns and team dynamics Foster a workplace culture aligned with the organization's mission, values, and code of ethics Own onboarding and orientation for new clinical hires, interns, and fellows Management & Administration Supervise clinical staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws; manage performance through coaching, appraisals, and corrective action as needed Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to clinical staff and MSW interns Monitor and review weekly documentation to ensure timely, quality record‑keeping and guide staff next steps Partner with the Associate Director on hiring, performance management, and goal‑setting Oversee select behavioral health projects including program evaluation, curriculum development, and new initiative launches Maintain departmental systems including referral workflows, intake processes, clinical records, and internal protocols Contribute to funder reporting, outcome tracking, and program documentation Represent the Behavioral Health team in cross‑departmental meetings as appropriate Provide 24/7 clinical guidance and emotional support to staff and participants during shooting responses, in collaboration with teammates Behavioral Health Operations Maintain a caseload of up to 6 participants, including intakes, clinical assessments, individual therapy, and timely progress notes Oversee and facilitate behavioral health groups including CBI, trauma education, and skill‑building groups Coach non‑clinical staff co‑facilitating CBI and other interventions to ensure quality and model fidelity Support development of standardized tools to assess staff and participant comprehension and utilization of CBI skills; train non‑clinical staff in assessment methods Collaborate with courts, probation and parole, and reentry systems to deliver behavioral health services including CBI curriculum Develop strategic alliances with community behavioral health and wellness providers Deliver services in a culturally humble and responsive manner Provide presentations and trainings to staff and community partners as needed Employee Behavioral Health & Wellness Lead and participate in the interdisciplinary staff wellness team, supporting development and implementation of wellness programming Collaborate with CORNERS and research partners to evaluate staff wellness initiatives Assist with integrating trauma‑informed policies and practices across the program Provide emotional support to staff following shooting responses and other on‑the‑job trauma exposure Co‑facilitate process groups, trainings, and presentations for staff and community partners, including CBI Required Qualifications Education & Licensure Master's degree in psychology, social work, or related behavioral health field; LCSW required (position provides clinical supervision toward independent licensure) Experience 5+ years providing evidence‑based, trauma‑responsive behavioral health services 3+ years facilitating behavioral health groups and crisis intervention 2+ years supervising unlicensed clinicians and/or MSW interns Experience working on a multidisciplinary team Experience delivering community based services to youth and adults, preferably in communities impacted by violence Proficiency in biopsychosocial assessments and clinical documentation Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of the criminal justice system, court processes, restorative justice, and alternatives to incarceration Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and written/verbal communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality, follow safety/security protocols, and perform effectively under pressure Other Requirements Valid driver's license, personal vehicle, insurance, and clean driving record Must pass pre‑employment drug screening and background check; no pending criminal cases Commitment to a drug‑free, safe workplace Salary / Benefits Institute for Nonviolence Chicago puts our people first with a top‑of‑the‑line benefits package.
