ServiceNow Developer

The ServiceNow Developer is a core member of the platform engineering team, with primary responsibility for ensuring the security, stability, and integrity of the ServiceNow platform. This role leads the design and development of secure, enterprise-grade solutions, with a strong emphasis on platform security hardening, risk mitigation, and compliance with organizational security standards. The developer will ensure all enhancements and integrations are implemented in a manner that preserves platform protections, enforces access controls, and aligns with enterprise security architecture. Success in this role means: Delivering secure, resilient, and scalable platform capabilities. Proactively identifying and mitigating security risks and vulnerabilities. Ensuring all solutions integrate seamlessly without compromising data protection, access controls, or system performance. Supporting the platform’s ability to operate reliably while maintaining strict adherence to security and governance standards. Responsibilities Platform Security & Risk Management (Primary Focus) Design, implement, and enforce platform security controls, including ACLs, role-based access, and data protection mechanisms. Identify, assess, and remediate security vulnerabilities and misconfigurations across the ServiceNow platform. Partner with platform administration and security teams to drive continuous security hardening initiatives. Ensure all customizations and integrations comply with enterprise security policies, audit requirements, and risk frameworks. Proactively monitor, mitigate, and control risks to minimize impact to business operations. Secure Platform Development Design and implement ServiceNow solutions using secure development best practices and standards. Ensure all development aligns with platform stability, performance, and security requirements. Own end-to-end delivery: design, development, testing (including security validation), and deployment. Build and maintain secure integrations (REST/SOAP, Scripted APIs, Data Streams, Spokes). Ensure integrations are implemented with appropriate authentication, authorization, and data protection controls. Validate that new solutions integrate with existing infrastructure without introducing security or performance risks. Platform Operations & Continuous Improvement Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and resolve platform and module issues, with a focus on security and stability. Drive ongoing platform improvements, balancing feature delivery with security and operational resilience. Stay current on ServiceNow capabilities, security trends, and emerging threats and incorporate them into platform strategy. Stakeholder Partnership Work with product owners and stakeholders to ensure requirements are translated into secure, scalable solutions. Provide guidance on secure design patterns and risk-aware implementation approaches. Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on experience developing on the ServiceNow platform , including scripting, configuration, and deployment. Strong experience with platform security hardening , including ACLs, RBAC, and secure configuration practices. Proven experience implementing secure integrations (REST/SOAP, RestMessageV2, Flow Designer, Scripted REST APIs, etc.). Deep understanding of ServiceNow core modules (Incident, Problem, Change, Service Catalog) and their secure customization. Experience configuring and deploying access controls (ACLs) and enforcing least-privilege access. Strong working knowledge of CMDB , Hardware Asset Management (HAM), and Software Asset Management (SAM). Certifications ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) Certified Implementation Specialist (ITSM, HAM/SAM, ITOM, or equivalent) Additional Experience Experience contributing to technical solutioning during procurement or design phases. Familiarity with security, risk, and compliance frameworks within enterprise environments.
