Land and Resource Management Instructor Job Details Job ID: 5713017 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 14, 2026 12:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Aug 17, 2026 Job Description Lyndon Institute seeks a passionate and innovative instructor to lead our growing Land Management and Natural Resources program. This full‑time position will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging and hands‑on curriculum in areas including forestry ecology and conservation, species identification, land use, wildlife habitat, and timber management practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in natural resource management, practical field experience, and a commitment to fostering the next generation of environmental stewards and skilled professionals. The learning environment for this program includes our 300‑acre Binney Woods forest, at the foot of Burke Mountain. Responsibilities Program Development and Instruction Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive CTE curriculum in Land Management and Natural Resources, aligned with industry standards and best practices. Deliver engaging and effective instruction through lectures, discussions, laboratory activities, field work, and project‑based learning. Incorporate practical skills training, including safe and proficient chainsaw operation, timber harvesting principles, forest management techniques, and ecological monitoring. Integrate concepts of environmental planning, land use regulations, conservation practices, and sustainable resource management into the curriculum. Continuously assess student learning and provide meaningful feedback. Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Program Management and Safety Maintain a safe and organized learning environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations, particularly during field work and equipment operation. Oversee the maintenance and safe use of program equipment, including chainsaws, forestry tools, and other relevant technology. Manage program resources effectively, including budget, equipment, and supplies. Collaborate with school administration, CTE department colleagues, and program advisory board members to ensure program relevance and effectiveness. Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and relevant certifications in land management and natural resources. Student Support and Development Work with our college and career counselor to guide students in exploring post‑secondary options, internships, and career pathways in related fields. Foster student leadership, teamwork, and professional skills through classroom activities and Career and Technical Student Organizations, specifically Future Farmers of America (FFA). Connect students with industry professionals through guest speakers, field trips, and potential mentorship opportunities. Promote student participation in regional, state, and national events, including the annual state Game of Logging event, and FFA competitions. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate effectively with other teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student success. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program activities. Participate in school‑wide events, professional development opportunities, and program‑related meetings. Qualifications Valid Vermont teaching license with CTE endorsement in a relevant area, or eligibility to obtain such licensure. Lyndon Institute will pay for courses in the Vermont State University’s CTE Teacher Prep Program if necessary. Significant practical experience in forestry, land management, environmental planning, or a related field. Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable forestry practices, ecological principles, land use regulations, and conservation strategies. Proven ability to safely and effectively operate and instruct in the use of chainsaws and other forestry equipment. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Game of Logging) are highly desirable. Experience in curriculum development, instructional delivery, and assessment in a secondary or post‑secondary setting preferred. Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, or a closely related field preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. A strong commitment to student success and a passion for experiential learning.
