Civil Engineer Intern

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer Student Intern to join our team in the Louisville, KY office within our Energy Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working on civil engineering projects in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment. Projects range from site grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, construction CQA/CQC, and hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) design, to large complex civil site designs. This is a temporary full‑time position at 40 hours a week and up to a 3-month duration. Additional schedules will be considered. Required skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, team focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real‑life problems. Intern Duties: Site Grading Plans Erosion and Sediment Control Plans Stormwater Management Plans Hydrologic and Hydraulic / Drainage Plans Utility Design and Relocation Plans Maintenance and Protection of Traffic Plans Geotechnical Investigations Permit Applications (earth disturbance permits, building permits, land development plans, high occupancy permits, etc.) Access Road Section Development Construction Drawings, Specifications, and Quality Control Plans Construction Cost Estimates Owner's Engineer Support During Construction Field Investigations Daily/Weekly Construction Inspections Earthwork Construction Quality Control Compaction Testing Concrete Testing ESC Inspections SWPPP Inspections Environmental Monitoring Occasional overnight travel (one to two stays) within 150 miles (up to 5%). Qualifications: Familiarity with CADD design software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD (preferred). Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel (required). As a GAI Student Engineering Intern, this position is responsible for assisting a team of engineers and project managers with Civil and Environmental designs and permitting. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills. Experience: This is an entry-level position with no experience required. The successful candidate should be enrolled in an electrical engineering program at a Junior or Senior level. Education and Training: Enrolled in a program to receive a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, preferably civil engineering is required. Must have good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Experience with drafting programs, particularly AutoCAD and Revitispreferred. Willingness to learn new programs and skills in Power Delivery. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and other business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members. Mathematical Skills: Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.) Computer Skills: Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages. Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry..
