Overview

The Work

The Systems Administrator, SME will be administering, optimizing, and troubleshooting computer systems, including Windows and UNIX systems (Linux or Solaris), ensuring optimal performance and reliability. You will be responsible for leading initiatives, collaborating with vendors, overseeing system requirements for multiple projects, and ensuring compliance with client guidelines.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• System Operations and Management: Supervise and manage daily operational activities related to the configuration and operation of business systems, including mainframe, mini, or client/server-based systems.
• Optimization and Capacity Planning: Optimize system performance and resource utilization. Perform detailed capacity analysis to support scaling and growth of systems.
• Automation: Develop and oversee the implementation of automation processes for system installation, upgrades, configuration, administration, and maintenance, ensuring streamlined operations.
• Problem Resolution and Investigation: Investigate, analyze, and recommend methodologies, processes, and technological solutions to address customer support and sustainment requirements.
• Preventive and Corrective Maintenance: Plan, initiate, and execute preventive maintenance measures to maintain the health of operating systems, storage systems, virtual infrastructures, and other IT assets. Perform necessary repairs to address any system-related issues or environmental challenges.
• Multi-Project Administration: Manage systems and environments across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring compliance with project delivery timelines and requirements.
• Vendor Liaison: Interface with vendors to troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate system issues as required, ensuring timely resolution of concerns.
• Project Support: Support the planning, assessment, and definition of system and environmental requirements for various technical projects.
• End-User Support: Provide expert-level assistance and user training for accessing, troubleshooting, and maintaining business systems.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need

• Bachelor’s Degree with 6–8 years of related experience or Master’s Degree with 2–6 years of experience.
• Considerable experience in configuring and administering Windows and UNIX systems (Linux or Solaris).
• DoD 8140-compliant certifications (e.g., IAT Level II credentials).
• Top-Secret Clearance is required.

• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
• Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in analyzing system faults, running diagnostic tests, and optimizing complex systems for operational efficiency.
• Demonstrated expertise in system capacity planning and resource utilization analysis across multiple systems.
• Familiarity with system configuration and documentation processes for software installations and testing.
• Proven ability to administer systems with varying schedules for multi-project environments.
• Exceptional troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills for systems and environments of varying complexity.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to interface effectively with internal teams and external vendors.

Reports to: Program Manager

Working Conditions

• Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• May require lifting and moving hardware equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Some tasks may involve standing, bending, or working in confined technical spaces.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
