Pharmacist Position

The Pharmacist will perform pharmacy work, such as drug selection, compounding and dispensing, bulk compounding of pharmaceutical and stock preparation. Provides information and consultative services to the medical staff on drugs, their characteristics, dosage, indication, contraindications, adverse reactions, availability of alternative medications, etc. Maintains control and security of narcotics and other controlled substances.

The duties include supervising the preparation and filling of prescriptions, dispensing medications to the patients and providing appropriate counseling, answering physician phone calls to the Pharmacy Department, inventory procurement and control of medications and supplies dispensed, providing billing information for use by the Finance Department for medications and supplies dispensed, setting up and providing clinical services in such programs like tobacco cessation, CMR/MTM, pain management/opioid stewardship, and antimicrobial stewardship, maintaining emergency medications for the Emergency Cart, assisting in the compilation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual statistics for management and other agencies, conducting medication in services and collaborating with medical/dental teams as requested by for Health Center staff, acting as Pharmaceutical Chief in absence of Director, consulting with and referring patients to other health care providers when necessary to optimize patient care, providing input and may evaluate and provide supervision and direction to Pharmacy Technician, Clerks and interns, participating in continuing education programs to stay abreast of new developments and trends in pharmacy science and medicine, maintaining an acceptable department attendance record, being reliable and prompt when reporting to work, attending job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge, adhering to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, passing the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLAX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE), having a license in good standing to practice Pharmacy, strong leadership and conflict resolution skills, ability to function independently, knowledge of Indian Health Service (IHS) guidelines, regulations, and procedures, 3 years US Pharmacy related experience, board certification in ambulatory care pharmacy, geriatric pharmacy, infectious disease pharmacy, and/or pharmacotherapy specialist, national certificate in tobacco treatment practice, opioid stewardship and/or pain management experience, ability to communicate well and relate to public, working knowledge of computers, dependability and ability to maintain confidentiality, willingness to attend all applicable training, passing pre-employment drug and health screening, eligibility for coverage under the employer's liability insurance, demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment, adherence to departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines, and ability to meet physical requirements of position.
