Lab Animal Veterinary Technician - Flexible Schedule (SF)

Job Title Veterinary Technician – San Francisco, CA – 6+ month contract to possible hire. Salary $24 to $32 per hour. Job Details This position is hosted by Robert Reyes. You will be part of the Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC) team, a unit of the Office of Research, dedicated to the proper care of animals used for research. Responsibilities Assisting veterinarians and AHT III staff with health care procedures and research services in the lab animal setting. Conducting simple health assessments and reporting to veterinarian and/or senior AHT. Assisting with veterinary technical procedures under direct supervision, such as blood collection and animal anesthesia. Assisting with the preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of surgical areas, necropsy room, treatment areas, and surgical and other technical supplies. Assisting with animal husbandry duties as assigned. Assisting with animal necropsy and tissue collection. Assisting with record keeping and data analysis for LARC projects. Performing other technical and administrative duties of similar complexity as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in clinical animal work as a veterinary assistant or licensed veterinary technician, including health assessment, basic handling of various species, anesthesia monitoring and surgery assistance, intubation, injections, venipuncture, and IV catheter placement. Ability to maintain a great degree of confidentiality. Confidence and competence in safely working with a variety of animal species. Understanding of the requirement to adhere to approved Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee protocols.
