Job Description
The Quality Control Lead oversees construction quality on large capital improvement and public works projects, ensuring all contractor work complies with contract plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and approved changes. This role leads inspection activities, coordinates with owners, contractors, and testing laboratories, and supports the full project lifecycle from pre-construction through commissioning and close-out.
Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor work to ensure it complies with contract plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and approved changes.
• Issue non-compliance reports documenting deficient work and track corrective actions until defects are resolved or formally accepted.
• Assist with pre-construction efforts, including capturing comprehensive pre-construction photos and videos for the inspection record.
• Support the owner with site investigations when differing or unforeseen conditions are encountered and when owner-initiated changes arise.
• Coordinate with the owner and contractor to ensure all required permits are obtained and that permit conditions are followed.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and maintain organized daily inspector photo documentation.
• Monitor project progress, document where, when, and why progress deviates from the approved schedule, and report issues in daily inspection reports.
• Verify and document installed bid quantities and assist with final quantity reconciliation at project completion.
• Attend and actively participate in progress and coordination meetings, providing input on quality, schedule, and field conditions.
• Coordinate with testing laboratories, the owner, and contractors to ensure required tests and inspections are scheduled and completed.
• Witness various field and factory tests and document results using owner-furnished report formats.
• Assist in reviewing contractor pay applications, verifying quantities and compliance with contract requirements.
• Review contractor as-built drawings as work progresses to confirm they remain accurate and up to date.
• Help coordinate contractor activities to minimize and eliminate impacts to the owner, the public, and other stakeholders.
• Assist with testing, startup, and commissioning of new systems to confirm proper installation and performance.
• Support the project close-out process, ensuring all quality control documentation and final inspections are completed.

Essential Skills

• Strong knowledge in civil construction and quality control, with experience on large capital improvement and public works projects involving multi-disciplined contractors.
• Expertise and working knowledge of all CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) divisions.
• Proficiency in reading, understanding, and correlating plans and specifications across multiple disciplines.
• Ability to prepare clear, detailed daily inspection reports and maintain organized photo documentation.
• Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting, documentation, and data tracking.
• Capability to coordinate effectively with owners, contractors, and testing laboratories to ensure timely inspections and tests.
• Skill in identifying non-compliant work, documenting deficiencies, and following up on corrective actions.
• Ability to monitor construction progress, recognize schedule impacts related to field conditions, and communicate findings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience with large, capital improvement, public works projects that require coordination among multiple disciplines is strongly preferred.
• Completion of a 10-hour OSHA safety course is preferred.
• First aid and CPR training is preferred.
• ICBO or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to documentation and record-keeping.
• Effective communication skills for participation in progress and coordination meetings.
• Ability to support testing, startup, and commissioning of new systems and assist in project close-out activities.

The position may be based in or supported by a man camp environment where room and board are fully covered, providing a structured, project-focused living arrangement. The work schedule typically aligns with construction activities and may require attendance at on-site progress and coordination meetings, field testing, and commissioning events. Safety practices, including adherence to OSHA standards and use of appropriate protective equipment, are an integral part of the work setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Dallas, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
